You’d think people would learn wouldn’t you.

How many times do people have to have a poor debut or conceded a penalty or a goal on their debut or not look like they fit the system only to end up being brilliant before people learn?

Muric gave a goal away and his passing was shocking. But I think I’ll allow the fact McKenna signed him after watching the guys whole career than get on his back after one game. That one game being against probably the best side in world football by the way.

Walton conceded 5 against Bolton early in his career. Davis was shocking on his first start. Hladky looked poor for weeks after joining. But sure. Let’s write off another one hey lol.

People are incredibly thick.

We see the same stupid posts every single season.

Truly impaired.

Exactly.
He's hardly Mark Fish!

I remember Taricco's debut against Bolton in the cup. One of the worst I've ever seen.

I saw Davis' debut and he wasn't shocking.
Yes he gave a pen away.
But he looked like a proper footballer.

Worst I’ve seen aside from Fish.

3-0 home defeat to a team from the league below.

What is it about Bolton! Davis. Walton. Taricco.

I’d love to know what was in his head though. Could be anything from nerves to overconfidence or lack of concentration after we’d scored first.

Still only seen one thread well after the goals that's negative about muric.

Some are in game posts Brought up by others well after the event.

And many like this op talking about it.

Mowbray (who admittedly was struggling following a bereavement) took a long time to turn into the player we all remember.

Indeed! We should remember that Burnley fans largely rated him last season, despite two howlers which led directly to goals. A few mentioned on his thread that they may have stayed up if he'd been swapped with Trafford sooner.

Muric had the best save record in the Prem last season, at 82%. Hladky averaged 67% in the Championship. Walton averaged 70% in League One. Hugely impressive.

Unsurprisingly then, he also had the best goal prevention stats in the Prem last season as calculated by Opta. He prevented 6 more goals than expected from your average PL keeper, across just 10 games. Deduct the 2 goals which he conceded due to his own errors, in case they are not considered by this stat, and he would remain at the top of last season's GK goal prevention table.

He also stopped a huge 14% of crosses into the box, 2nd in the league only to Ramsdale.

He did the most sweeping of anybody per 90', for better or worse aha - Kieran wants him to play his natural game.

His FotMob average player rating last season was 7.7/10, which would have made him the 7th highest rated player in any position in the PL in 23/24, between Olise and Rice. He doesn't rank on the list because he didn't play 50% of matches. Today his rating was 2.8/10. This performance was a mile off what he delivered for Burnley, albeit yes among his otherwise excellent work there he did have two major errors which led to goals.

Muric played 41 games for Burnley in their 22/23 season. He had the highest save percentage in the league (77%), stopped the 2nd most crosses in the league and you can safely predict the rest. There are many reasons to be optimistic that Muric's time with Town won't be defined by his horror debut.

I was expecting him to be badly at fault for all 3 goals from. The reaction. Dear oh dear those reactions were pathetic. One horrible moment basically. The 3rd goal can happen and in retrospect he should have retreated but that starting position will save us a few as well.

His save 2nd half was absolutely unbelievable so just about cancelled our the one he cost us. (I know it doesn't quite work like that!).

Was brilliant pre-season. I think he'll be great for us. I also think that won't be the last mistake that costs us a goal. But we know the risk reward element. He will learn to make them less

People don't seem to realize that City put so much pressure on you and suffocate teams that leads to players making mistakes, it's Pep's blueprint, swarm the opposition to force them into making mistakes. It's why they have won 5 titles on the bounce. It's not unique to Muric for this to happen, it's the same for everyone else.

He'll be fine.

Nicely put Asa. These threads are unreadable when people use such provocative negative language to describe players. We’ve seen enough, we’ve been through enough in the years supporting Ipswich to know writing players off at early stages leads to no good place, least the player but for the overall club it’s toxic. If it’s acceptable to write the new GK is awful after a game, where does it lead if we have 5 losses. We buy players to improve them. As supporters we back them and should be with them in the hard times. No player is immune from criticism and there is no issue with calling out a poor performance but given the way this season likely goes it important to refrain from a pile on from a handful of matches. Our GK will concede goals this season, full stop. Our team will concede many goals this season, full stop. We may stay up, we may go down but we will need the spirit of a club United to withstand it all. Otherwise things implode quite quickly.
