Muric let down 08:02 - Aug 25 with 7586 views | bsw72 | Having watched back the game, seems to me the criticism of Muric is a little unfair. He made a clear error with the second goal, no question but made some good saves. The third and fourth goals were incredibly poor defensively. Long ball over the top caught out the defence and Haaland would have been clean through, Muric may have looked out of position but trying to force a player moving fast out wide is not a particularly poor decision but Haaland execution made it look worse. Fourth goal, Haaland was covered by 3 players, of which two were easily dispossessed and then instead of closing down Haaland, Woolfenden turned his back. If anything demonstrated why we need O’Shea to partner Greaves it was yesterday’s defensive showing.
Muric let down on 10:08 - Aug 25 with 1632 views | billlm | A fair take on the play, Third was a great take by haaland at pace tagged by muric and still the balance to slot it home, 3-1 on paper would have looked good, I went mad at Taylor and harness both could have cleared our lines,

I had high hopes for Taylor, Never been played in the position he did for Boro, And our probably a season to fast from what the club were thinking has stopped his progression with itfc sad for him, If we were still championship he would have played a lot more this season, Harness done well last year but his injury in league one stopped his progression, He's a tryer but agree we're in the premiership now so they both need new clubs loan or sell,I think Taylor may hang around till January though,

I think McKenna might be planning to keep them as part of the 25. Muric, Walton, Slicker, H Clarke, Johnson, Davis, Townsend, Burgess, Greaves, O'Shea, Tuanzebe, Woolfenden, Cajuste, Luongo, Morsy, Phillips, Taylor, Burns, Broadhead, J Clarke, Harness, Chaplin, Szmodics, Hirst, new striker. As Delap and Hutchinson are under 21, they don't count towards the 25. I can see Edmundson, Al-Hamidi and Ladapo all being moved on. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 13:30]

Muric let down on 13:24 - Aug 25 with 1472 views | Nthsuffolkblue | I have just watched the highlights and it is interesting to note how small margins things hang on. Davis' foul is right on the line and so close to being a free kick rather than a penalty. The big difference with Davis' penalty shout is that from one angle it looks like he is already going down and so I reckon the VAR officials saw it as him going down very easily. Haaland took all of his goals very well. Muric was pushing him wide but probably met him too far out so he had room to go round him. If he hadn't closed him down as quickly as he did, Haaland would probably have had time to control it and lob him instead, though. We won't be playing against a player of Haaland's strength, pace and ability all combined every week, though. That said, if Lewis and De Bruyne's shots were slightly better and Edison had got a stronger hand on Szmodics' shot, we could have been reflecting on a proper hammering. Overall, from what I have seen and with the new signings in the door, I am confident we will be fine. We have played 2 of the toughest games of the season and we are not bottom and are only in the relegation zone on goal difference. We will be fine.

That's where i'm at to be honest. I genuinely would have started with Walton yesterday, did well enough against Liverpool to deserve another chance and you also know that he would not be taking chances with the ball at his feet against City. Still, yesterday was a learning curve for everybody including the manager. Onwards and upwards. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 13:55]

Muric let down on 08:08 - Aug 25 by FrimleyBlue | More about the 2nd goal. Its obvious why it happend now. If you freeze the video. You'll see he's actually looking at the ball as he receives it.. so in that time he's not even aware of the change in direction of the city player. I put that down to confidence. I know last season. There was a goal conceded when his foot went over the ball when he wasn't looking at it.. perhaps this has played on his mind to much. |
Honestly, with that one just put your foot through it, just not worth the risk. GKs are not creative midfield players that are able to find the acutest pass when under pressure. I just don’t know why managers don’t say to the GKs if you feel nothing is on, hit it long turn them around it gets us higher up the pitch and it might result in a throw in for us in their terriority. This insistence that every ball has to be played out leaves me scratching my head at times, it’s not always possible as yesterday showed.

That decision was so close to just being a free kick , just one of the city players feet in the box , .slightly harsh to give it IMO
Muric let down on 19:16 - Aug 25 with 1217 views | tcblue | Feels a bit weird to be pointing this out, but we played the two best teams (by a big margin) in the PL. You're going to see more mistakes, defensively, because of the fact you have more pressure. Even if you take their second goal into consideration and say it was relatively unforced; the defensive unit was still having to acclimate to a level of pressure they've never experienced.

Muric let down on 09:39 - Aug 25 by Jimmy86 | Muric is just that sort of keeper... He made a couple of mistakes like that at the back end of last season with Burnley.. despite what people say, he is an upgrade on Hladky.. but he will need to learn quickly.. It's the modern way of playing out, by a keeper.. Pickford, arguably one of England's best keeper's, got done exactly the same yesterday against Tottenham. |
Yeah, we’ll have to take the rough with the smooth. As annoying as it was yesterday they probably would’ve scored 3 or 4 goals whether that happened or not. It is a lesson though, we surrendered possession too easily on occasions and while Davis rightly got questioned for the penalty it was so sloppy from Luongo in the first instance on that one. Clearly a cock up by Muric on the 2nd too. Just not very streetwise but as I say I don’t think either really changed the likely direction of the game, they’re so dominant and generally find a way.

Pickford did something equally silly yesterday. It's right to point it out as a stupid mistake but it's done. We were never ever going to get anything yesterday. Our season will be decided against Fulham, Brentford, Everton etc. The gap in quality from us to the top 8 is ridiculous and to me insurmountable away from home.

Established Wolves today lost at home, by more goals that we did yesterday, to a team that’s considered to be several levels below City and Liverpool. Bournemouth lost 9-0 at Anfield. Champions League Villa lost 4-1 at the Etihad. Everton lost by more than we did to a team a level at least below City. The England keeper made the same, probably worse, mistake as Muric. The level of flouncing has been predictable but quite sad really. We will lose stupid goals and get hammered this season. We will also beat some top teams. People need to learn to enjoy the season. And they’ll succeed as one or fail as one. It’s like people haven’t listened to a word KM or Ashton said through the summer. But then football without emotions would be pointless, so I suppose people chewing the fat and having a little moan on social media isn’t the worst thing. The dominance of the best clubs at the moment seems really strong. There were a few years when upsets were quite common, but I can’t think of one in the first two match rounds. Most teams will drop points to City and Liverpool this season, home and away. It’s a cliche, but we really are going to be in a mini league with a handful of other clubs in the bottom third or so. Muric let down on 11:04 - Aug 26 with 1011 views | FrankMarshall | Disagree. Watch his positioning when Man City hit the bar on the two occasions. Woeful goalkeeping. Just hope it's a one-off and he'll have a good spell from now on. Remember Sone Aluko's debut for us wasn't great and he went on to do well.

Muric let down on 11:45 - Aug 26 with 967 views | DavoIPB | Has anybody actually listened to what the Burnley fans are saying or seen the highlight reels. Muric will make a lot of these kind of mistakes. Where he makes up for it is his shot stopping and handling on crosses. Recruitment must have looked at the stats and decided he will gain more points for us than he loses. Hladky would probably have made less mistakes but would probably been out of his depth at stopping the kind of shots muric will stop. Walton no where near the shot stopping capability and not as accurate with passing. I would guess this will mean Muric will continue to start games.
