Time to gel 18:26 - Aug 25 with 5783 views | GlasgowBlue | I think we are going to have to be patient with the team over the next few games. There is a general feeling that Liverpool and Man City were free hits and the season starts with Fulham. But last year we had the momentum from our previous promotion and the team was very settled. Continuity was the ket and everyone was comfortable in their role. Our team in three games time is going to be unrecognisable, and as good as the players are there will be a bedding in period when they get to know each other and perfect the patterns of lay that the League One/Championship team was so familiar with. I think things we get worse before they get better. But they will get better.

Time to gel on 19:06 - Aug 25 by _clive_baker_ | Agree but we’ve also got a decent (by premier league standards) 8 games coming up. Obviously they’re all still tough, and it includes Villa and a trip to Brighton, but the sort of set of fixtures we probably want to be taking double digits by way of points from if we’re to stay in touching distance of a survival level run rate. |
Exactly this, we need a point per game 10 points from next 8 would be great.
Time to gel on 07:50 - Aug 26 with 1294 views | Asa | Over the last 5 years the average points to stay up is 33. In the last ten years 39 keeps you up every season. If it is that again we need around or less than a point per game potentially. So say 19 points by the half stage in December. Which might only be 4 wins and 7 draws with 8 defeats thrown in. A win on Saturday and we are already on track for that. It’s going to take some getting used to, not winning every week or even often. But this team is being built to do a lot better than just survive. We could be shocking up to Christmas and still survive. It’s how it is. What will be vital is the fans getting behind the team and the players brushing off every defeat and going again, which McKenna will make sure they do. When we gel, I’m more than confident we will be good enough. I’d have fancied McKenna to get the points needed with the old squad. I’m sure he will with the new one. [Post edited 26 Aug 2024 7:56]

Agreed. What saturday will do is give a more accurate impression of where we are. Win and I'll be confident of staying up. Draw or defeat and I'll be looking at how we played for comfort, and probably sating 'it will take time to gel'!

Not sure the insults are warranted. You said you trust McK to fix things. Apologies for misinterpretation of your comment. Maybe you could have worded it slightly better.

Time to gel on 19:09 - Aug 25 by britbiker | Just hope we don't take a step back assuming the likes of Fulham will be easier. They have stayed in the division on merit. Also hope we don't get a small element of entitled fans. We have got used to winning or at least competing for two years now. Still remember the bad old days of fans bickering with each other. I think most supporters are realistic now. |
Definitely, we cannot underestimate anyone. Was chatting to a mate yesterday though and we were saying how this team only gets better from this point on (once new players are integrated) and the opposition only gets easier than Liverpool and City. I am feeling good about us. If we can get another decent striker in then I think it has been a 10/10 window beyond my wildest expectations. It's pretty nuts that after two games we have 0 points and a -5 GD and we are only 3rd bottom after playing the two most difficult fixtures of anyone. There are some pretty duff teams (relatively speaking) in this league and we just need to concentrate on being better than 3 of them.

In reality, I think Leicester will be gone due to being poor & FFP penalties. Everton and their fans appear to be intent on self-imploding, so we only really need to be better than ONE other team! I've got my eyes fixed firmly on Wolves right now... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Swap Forest for Bournemouth and I think that is probably the bottom 7 come the end of the season. Got a feeling selling players is going to catch up with Palace, seems mad they are going to sell both their starting centre halves. They need to do some business before the end of the window. Agree re Leicester. And Everton could get another points deduction too? Southampton nailed on to go down as well for me. Martin will get out-managed every week and his plan B is simply doing plan A better.

Have to admit I'd forgotten about Southampton. Yes, I think Leicester, Everton, Wolves and Saints are four teams we *can* finish above. I'd take 16th place and run! Am I right in saying that would earn us more future parachute payments if we went down?

Really looking forward to seeing what McKenna can do with these new signings seeing as near enough every single player has improved under him. Couldn't possibly have a better manager/coach.

Time to gel on 18:43 - Aug 25 by GlasgowBlue | It doesn't help that it's only a 38 game season rather than the 46 we have been used to. |
It does help that the target is 40+ points rather than 90+. We have become used to winning two thirds of our games. Now winning one third would be excellent. We have more "slack" for bad results than we did last year, even with 8 games less.

Time to gel on 18:34 - Aug 25 by J2BLUE | It's just how it is for promoted clubs. We need to judge the season over 38 games. This is a marathon, not a sprint. There was a lot of overconfidence on here over the summer. Easily stay up, definitely top half etc. It's going to be a battle. Was depressing to see the reaction from a vocal minority yesterday. |
For those of us who live in the real world, we were always expecting a battle. I have said all along that survival is the goal. Those spouting top 4 were talking out their a$$ and even those talking top 10 are not with reality. 17th is our first goal, every place above that is a bonus.

Has anyone actually said top 4 without joking? Or 10 for that matter. Also. The reaction to the past two losses has been positive around twtd. Not so much twitter or Facebook for on here it's been good.

I haven't said otherwise. Yes, some were saying top 4 and top 10 and no, I don't think they were joking. I wasn't on here Saturday, so have no idea what was said. As long as we all agree that survival is the end goal, then we will all get along just fine.

Survival is the goal. Not sure if the owners have a different target. But minimal for fans has to be survival

Yeah it’s very much a premier league benchmark. They’re firmly a mid table side IMO and being at home it’s the sort of fixture you circle as one where we would hope to get points. It’s never going to be Liverpool and away to City that will define our season. It probably is games like Fulham at home that will, or games of that ilk. There’s 11-13 home games against non ‘top 6 to 8’ opposition. That’s not to say we’ll win them all of course, and nor do we need to, but we probably need to be winning half of them at least.
