...doesn't say a lot but feels as though it's coming to a head

Armando Broja agreed to join Ipswich on loan with an obligation to buy worth £30million. However, the deal has suffered a complication because the striker suffered a foot injury in training with Chelsea. Ipswich are still in talks, but they have also started to look at other options.

Banter era 2.0?

I pray not. None of our transfer business has left a "what if" scenario on the table thus far. I just fear that we may look back in March/April time and wondering what would've happened had we signed an alternative to hit the ground running at the start of the season. Relegation matters not a jot to Broja, he'll still get a move next summer to another decent-sized club.

Any chance it could have changed to a straight loan with us paying a portion of wages meaning we get another striker in?

Tbf I think Brentford headed for the hills over our new midfielder Cajuste.

Then let’s hope they were wrong

The same can be said for pretty much all loan players, Philips and Cajuste can just waltz back to their parent clubs with no worries if we end up relegated. All transfers are a risk.

We seem to research our targets much better than we've ever done. If we do sign Broja it will be because we feel the risk is outweighed by the reward.

Seems pretty clear that we really REALLY want him and also we should by now be really REALLY well appraised of the injury situation/risk and also we know how well this club has been run by a management that has overseen relentless success so on balance I’d say it’s one more likely to work than not.

Hopefully if we are proceeding we've managed to secure better financial terms for ourselves

We just must be convinced that we can't get a better option within our budget and that he will be worth the wait. A risk that we don't know will pay off until the end of the season, I guess.

Not that mad at it, I'd rather get a better option and wait rather than get someone who we will have to move on/pay to sit in reserve who we don't fancy.

Doesn’t that depend on the definition of better option?

For me, Moore would have been a better option in that he was available to play, albeit limited in what he does. Signing a player who was once a prospect and has done nothing in a couple of years and will now spend the autumn in our packed out treatment room (hope it’s been extended) seems on the face of it an act of desperation.

But I choose my words carefully - ‘on the face of it’. I don’t know the true situation or the deal. Nobody does outside the club, Chelsea and the player/his happy agent. Let’s hope the introductory video isn’t with him on a treatment table if it happens.

Let’s just see how it pans out before jumping to any conclusions. Patience n all that jazz.

Hmm let's just hope nothing happens to Delap.

Relegation means nothing to Odsonne Edouard, Kévin Denkey etc etc. They would jump ship if we were to get relegated so I'm not sure that's a reason to be unhappy.

The truth is we could be looking back at this in March/ April calling it a master stroke. We have absolutely no idea...

What we can be assured of is that the board and KmC are as sure as they can be that this will work and have got the best deal for Ipswich Town.

Yeah, there's two ways of looking at everything, of course. I'll back Broja to the hilt whenever he's wearing a Town jersey. I really hope it pays off.

I wonder if we’ve pressed ahead with it as we’ve managed to negotiate more favourable terms for ourselves? I.e lower loan fee/lower end price to purchase should we stay up?

If that’s the case the club may feel it’s a deal worth doing, even if he’s not available for 7 weeks or so.

Contact has just told me the injury *may* only keep him sidelined for a month, hence why we've taken the plunge. Best-case scenario he only misses Fulham, Brighton and Southampton.

Think we could also have presented the 'worst case' scenario (e.g the 7 weeks) figure to help negotiate the best terms and maybe that likely scenario is that he's available well before that.

It's very easy to have a setback from an injury. I'd much prefer if we signed someone who was 100%. Unless we've somehow got the cash to bring in Broja and a fully fit striker. Him and Denkey and I'll be less concerned.

Yeah absolutely and totally get the concerns. But the reality is that we will always be taking on a significant level of risk, either because the player has an injury history and better clubs won't take/ keep them or because they aren't proven at the level eg Jack Clarke/ Jacob Greaves etc etc.

If he signs and most importantly stays fit, we've got a 22-year-old striker with loads of room to grow, one who has led the line at Chelsea, for Albania at Euro 2024 and a player that will retain his value if he is relatively competent. That feels like good value to me.
