Kalvin Phillips 23:46 - Aug 28 with 6155 views | MVBlue | First performance tonight, not sure what to make of that. I was looking forward to this top player from years ago. Might take Kieran quite a while to get the right tune out of him from what I saw. [Post edited 28 Aug 2024 23:47]

Kalvin Phillips on 23:50 - Aug 28 with 5660 views | FrimleyBlue | He's very safe. He used to have a real drive about his play and put balls in only the likes of Scholes would do years ago. Pep 100% drained that from him. It's very simple passes now. Give it a month or two and I think we will see the old phillips. There were glimpses in this game but it'll take time and confidence.

Kalvin Phillips on 23:50 - Aug 28 with 5673 views | mrfixit426 | Not sure what you were watching. I saw him give the ball away once, other than that his passing was great, switching the play well and missing out players making the third man run. Rusty obviously, but a class above anyone else on the pitch. He tired early but what do you expect. An incredible asset for the club if he's managed well.

Pep does that to players. Grealish used to dazzle with the ball at Villa and Halaand used to track back and get involved with the defence at Dortmund. His system demands very specific roles and it works.

I think he does really well at protecting the ball when we have it and not getting turned over easily. Think he will be a really good player for us in the prem

Agreed. He never really got out of first gear and breezed his 60 minutes on the pitch. Always had 10 yards of space and moved the ball well. It’s going to be really interesting to see how our midfield shapes up. Expect he’ll be on the bench still Saturday and is eased in gradually.

Was OK lucky not to concede a pen when he manhandled their player in the box. Didn't see anything from him or Cajuste to warrant dropping Morsy and Mass and as for Taylor someone please buy him today or tomorrow.

Cajuste looked very comfortable on the ball and barely gave it away, one or two recovery tackles in there also, I think he had one burst forward that caused a bit of a chaos

I thought lots was seen from Cajuste especially to start him in front of Luongo at the weekend!

I also think his West Ham experience knocked him, he almost tried too hard there to prove a point. Last night it looks like he was trying to do the simple things well and then can build on them.

It looked clear to me that he was the most skilful player on the pitch. His control and pace of moving the ball and decision making were a different class. Once he knows what the players around him are doing he will be a superb player for us. I am not quite sure what the OP expected or was watching to be honest.

Kalvin Phillips on 08:01 - Aug 29 with 4156 views | WeWereZombies | I'm hoping that Phillips will be giving us the full performance quite soon, last night he looked like he had plenty more left in the tank. And he looks like he is built like a tank too. Sad that we may lose a fridge over the next couple of days but a tank is more useful in battle...

Kalvin Phillips on 08:04 - Aug 29 with 4109 views | itfckenty | He wasn't terrible by any means. I gave it away once (which led to that offside goal) but other than that, he pinged some good balls about, not perfect but good. But then what did we expect? The lads been a bench warmer for years. Give him time.

Kalvin Phillips on 08:49 - Aug 29 with 3679 views | _clive_baker_ | Could tell he was easing himself back in and understandably so. Hasn't played much competitive football for a while, don't think he had a full pre season either and his first appearance of the season. He'll take some time to get up to speed, we've got the 2 week break after Fulham which is very timely given the amount of additions we've made. I'd expect him to feature heavily after that.
Kalvin Phillips on 09:00 - Aug 29 with 3575 views | Leics_Blue | His class and pedigree was obvious last night, I felt his low confidence levels also showed through in his play as there were a few times where he was sitting in that Morsy position in front of the centre backs (where Morsy would actively make space and make himself available and then more often than not get it and then move it on to keep play ticking) where Phillips seemed reluctant to find/make space and take the ball. Thought Cajuste looked like the right man to play with Morsy for the Fulham game. **edit** IF Mckenna decides NOT to go with Luongo, which for what its worth I think he should go with Luongo for Sat [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 9:04]

Kalvin Phillips on 09:46 - Aug 29 with 3231 views | tractorshark | I thought he was pretty good to be fair. Maybe not spectacular but you can see he’s a class above and will help us regain and more importantly retain possession in midfield. Luongo (and others) has struggled a little with that in the first two games and in the Prem you’ll get punished for gifting the oppo the ball. I actually thought Cajuste was the standout performer. Really looked impressive in that first half.

I thought all the new players showed a little bit of something in phases. I think Clarke was playing within himself however he really does glide on the ball and I was impressed with how quickly he moved the ball as well - seems to know when to take multiple touches and when to just give it.

Taylor loan to a lower champ club to see of he can boss it. Our performance this season will depend on our need for him next, but he looked very poor. And to be honest he struggled to find his place last season also. There's a player in there but we have gone past him I think

He is definitely a player of Championship quality. I just don't think he fits our system and I haven't seen anything to suggest he is Premier League quality.
