In fairness, he was great as a loanee. But, yes, a complete waste of space once he signed permanently.

How do you know JET was a bad egg in the dressing room?

He was the only reason I continued to pay my gate money at the time.

Yeah, JB great as a loanee (terrific player), got a contract, munched and drank his way through the summer and waddled out for the new season the size of a hippo fresh from the swamp.

I’ll be controversial - the one that annoyed me the most though was Paul Taylor. That signing was awful in every way. Peterborough Board must have been rolling in the aisles in hysterics when that bid went in.

I disagree. Bullard was a class player, but we ddidn’t see the best of him. One performance away at Cardiff was outstanding. He was unfortunately a n=utcase.

He was class for about a dozen games in one season. As soon as he was actually required to work for a living, he couldn't be arsed.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Can't win with footballers sometimes. Get criticised if you've nothing about you and no character or boring, and get called poisonous if you're the opposite. I appreciate Bullard is an extreme example.

At least he backed up his wayward-ness with some great moments during his career. The Cardiff game was one, he scored two. His loan spell was one of most entertaining periods of the Evans era, he was absolutely class. He would tell you that Jewell changing his position that summer contributed to his downfall.

Bullard used to drink a lot in Isaacs and tell everyone who spoke to him that he wasn't Jimmy Bullard but was actually a dustman.

Bullard was a superb player util the ink was dry on his contract.
After that he was a waste of space.

If you had asked the OP his thoughts on JET yesterday, the answer would've been completely different. 11 years after leaving us, and gets done for something that has happened recently, and suddenly he was a bad egg in the dressing room.

Maybe read Jason Dozzell’s book.

It encouraged me to remain open-minded on players: their lives might be very complicated, very difficult. Lives we know little about.

Tbh, I don’t remember it though I do remember at the time hearing he was a good player - probably from the Peterborough bloke.

Good start? That’s sometimes the case, Grant Ward being the classic. Banged in a hat trick on debut v Barnsley. There was I thinking ‘hello, another Tommy Miller here’. Turned out he was more Windy Miller. Poor. Saw Knudson play his first game pre season. He looked great and hit an absolute rocket shot too. While not as bad as some claimed, he wasn’t the best.

Emmanuel-Thomas started on a high - I thought he might settle down and be a player. Somebody I was working with at the time knew him a little and said what a nice fella he was. And I’m sure he still is, but his natural talent just hasn’t been fulfilled, like so many.

It’s just how it is with people and careers, especially in sport.

Dramatisation though. £600k is actually only about 2.5 kg. Of course, saying that as opposed to the big money ‘street value’ number isn’t as sensational a press release / story to sell.
