….1996 for me.

My GF moved out, my best mate moved in.

Got a big promotion at work.

Earning proper money.

Music was at its peak.

Oasis at Knebworth.

I’d just finished a football ban.

Euro 96.

Football’s coming home.

Chemicals were plentiful and cheap.

Heady times.

Choose life.

A general feeling of positivity around the country.

Lovely stuff.

I’d give a big shout out to 1999. Town on the way to a glorious promotion, Me working in Essex editing Knave magazine and the benefits that came with that; boozy lunches mostly either with photographers (and occasionally a model too) or with colleagues at Witham snooker club. Fridays was always pints at the white hart followed by fish and chips back at the office.

Damn that was a good time.

1993. Had made a load of money contracting in Gibraltar so when the contract finished me and some of the other lads went to Ibiza for the summer. We rented an apartment in San Antonio from June to September and partied hard! I blew about 5k in those months, which was a lot of money back then!

Not sure if it was the best, but I'd be happy to go back to 1978. Sixth form, part time job, bit of money on the hip, could just turn up at PR and pay a few quid to stand on the North, a few away days, cheap beer, plenty of pubs, great music and hardly a care in the world.

Good to hear! Lunchtime work pints are not really a thing here in US so makes me remember those days even more fondly. And the 5:44pm train from Witham to Ipswich was regularly delayed so we’d often have a couple in the pub by the station while we waited.

I was 9 in 1996, so it was probably a decent year for me to be fair and my mum was still around.

For me 2005-2006 was good. Not so much for supporting Town but having done my A levels in 2005 and saved up my money from working part time in Tesco I travelled for a few months over summer, basically spent it in SE Asia meeting new people, hanging out with 1 or 2 people I already knew from Suffolk. Getting wasted, shagging about, partying. Came back in the September and moved straight to Durham for Uni where I carried on with the above alongside some reluctant studying, was playing football semi pro so didn't need a part time job. Still had less money than a lot of my preppy peers whose parents were funding them but got by and had a great time. Met a girl there in my 2nd year, dated for a few years and was the only reason I moved to London as it had little appeal otherwise, but subsequently loved it there. Broke up with her but met my now wife and mother of my 2 little ones on a night out in Putney, which no doubt I wouldn't have done if I didn't move there.

96 was a good year for me, lots music related, but I was dirt poor in a crap job so that can't win.

I'd probably say 2006, mostly due to my dj exploits. Had a bi monthly residence at ministry of sound, played at Space in ibiza, also played in Berlin, as well as all over the UK, especially loads of amazing venues in London.

I partied HARD. Really hard. Had an incredible time, made loads of memories, and made lots of friends who I still keep in touch with.

And incredibly I managed to hold down a decent job throughout all of this, even if my Monday to Wednesday performance was less than optimal.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I’ve a few to choose from but I think I’ll go 2000.

It started with a 24 hour open house event at our little hovel with friends and relations turning up in almost a relay. A mad, drunken but happy time.

I then went skiing end of that month to Lake Louise in Canada and did some of my best ever skiing in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Talk about feeling like king of the world.

My dad and I followed ITFC to Wembley. What a night that Bolton game was - still one of the most extraordinary experiences following our mob. Then Wembley. What a day. New season, north stand ST - what can I say?

Work was going brilliantly. I was working on projects as a Product Manager for an IT company. It was challenging and interesting. Had some fun too with people I meet now and again to this day.

Mrs C and I had a perfect holiday in Cyprus. In the spring I got the opportunity to fly in a Tiger Moth then in the autumn fly Mrs C in a light aircraft from Biggin Hill.

Even the golf went well that year.

So yes, 2000 is the one for me.

Was Witham a hotbed of jazz mag production in the late 90s/early 2000s? When I worked in Harlow managing a team of graphic designers I'd often get CVs from people who worked there on various adult interest publications whenever I advertised a vacancy.

1996 for me too. Moved in with some mates, new (better) job and the Euros all added to the positivity that was around. Not hugely into the whole Britpop scene, but some great albums were being made nonetheless, although 1997 was the golden year for releases imho.

It was indeed! Galaxy Publications, based in Freebournes Road. The owners were basically living off money made in the glory days of the 70s and 80s when some of the best selling mags had circulation in the hundreds of thousands. Used to spend hours in the boardroom looking at the leather-bound volumes of the old mags. Back then they were proper mags with actual articles and mainstream (mostly alcohol and cigs) advertisers. I vividly recall a feature on Stirling Moss and his high-tech home of the future.

I joined at the start of their decline - insert your own jokes - but obviously no way the high cost of print production could keep up with free filth online. Still, it was a great four years there.

July 93 - July 94

Remember being in the Odeon with a big cardboard cut out of a dinosaur for Jurassic Park back when the world seemed simple and I was full of hopes and dreams. June/June 94 my favourite world cup. Got this ball and water bottle in a happy meal from McDonalds. Good times before it all went to sh1t.

Yes! 93-96 in general, but as you say, 95/6 was the nuts. Football was fun after the 95’ season, I was going from Camden to New York, to Amsterdam, Barca, Hong Kong, great clubs, beers, birds! It all seemed so easy to travel, even a night out in Ipswich could be great. Times indeed.
