I think there is an argument for Keane being regarded as worst on account of the greater resources made available to him, which were then mainly squandered. So Jewell had to pick up the pieces, and should be given a bit of credit for not completely falling apart (although he was fairly discombobulated by the end.)
Lambert's biggest failing was that he kept on trying, long after anyone less injected with the conviction that being a European winner meant you were a shoo in as a good manager would have given up the ghost. He was unfortunate in that, after a bright start, his move into big club management was blighted by a couple of ossified ownership structures in Villa and Town. Even as pundit now he looks like a rabbit in the headlights.
Which leaves Hurst. How rapidly his plan fell apart. Between him and Keane in my opinion. [Post edited 26 Sep 2024 17:04]
