That half time cringefest 17:42 - Oct 19 with 9519 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

I know there was bigger problems today but wtf was that about with Wardley. There’s one thing appreciating he’s good for the club but the announcer guy (and presumably the club) are taking it too far now.

For those who weren’t there I will set the scene. We’re 2-0 down and suddenly the announcer five minutes into half time gets on the mic with ‘now it’s time. HERE. WE. GO. Ohhhhh Fabio Wardleeeyyyy’ and then proceeded to conduct the crowd into singing Wardleys name. To which we then had him introduce Wardley as if it was a boxing match (weight etc) before he came out the tunnel with the belts. The interview was fine to be fair but the cringe fest was then continued with an attempted rendition of ‘he’s one of our own’ by the half time guy on the mic.

It can’t just be me that thinks this is way over the top. We’re 2-0 down at that point remember. Just screamed tinpot.

Second balls. Jesus Christ.

I thought we had been banned from winning them today. Every time the ball dropped, I knew it would be a white shirt who picks it up.

Don’t mean to pick him out (although I’m about to) but winning those 50/50s and the bouncing second balls in the centre circle area is usually Morsys bread and butter. Today he barely put a foot in it seemed.

Credit to the centre mid for Everton. Very good performance.

Yep.

Cajuste interests me. He is a good profile for the prem. 6'2. well built. Has a reputation as a strong tackler. Think he could be handy in there.

Is this announcer there for every game?

The way he read out the teams, is utter B0ll0x and cringey.

Sorry it's my first live game of the season. If he is, he needs to be sacked. Total rubbish

Carrying a knock isn’t he?

I’d have had him today ahead of Phillips personally. Don’t think it was the right game for KP. Would’ve been tempted to give Taylor a go tbh. He’s been good for us off the bench for a long time now

Yeah every match this season he’s done it with that OTT demeanor.

I found it really embarrassing to the point me and my nephew just look at each other as in "WTF is this?"

Also the "Blue Army" stuff to get the crowd going is not needed.

Wardley will have little or no say in where he fights at this stage of his career, Hearn will take him where the dough is, Saudi Arabia.

Thought Morsy was not up to his usual high standards today, unfortunately... Unlike last season, today, when he received the ball off the back line, he either played it back to them, or wide, instead of playing on the half turn, as he has always done...

Sorry should have said Warren or Hearn. They call the shots and both will take the Saudi £

My mate (and fellow Ipswich fan) produced The Barry Hearn Show on Spotify, worth a listen.

Today’s the first time I’ve conceded we might be in trouble this year.

I always thought our spirit and fight would be enough. After all Luton gave it a good go last year on spirit and fight and I think we’re a better team than them with better players and a better manager.

But today we looked devoid of ideas going forward and seriously lacking in confidence defensively. Barely won a second ball in the middle of the park as well in the first half really didn’t help matters.

Yeah it was very poor - Phillips not on it, at all, and Clarke looked some way away too.

That was a performance well below where we need to be, against an Everton side that really didn't have to do all that much to be quite a lot better.

The concern is that's now 2 distinctly sub-par performances, in a row, against Prem sides that will both happily take 14th this year.

If anyone can get it right its McK, but there's a few bloody expensive players there underperforming atm.

The worry for me is that we have more time on the training pitch in between games now and at times today it looked like we'd never played together!

I know we have a few new players, but we need to get them bedded in ASAP, as there was a real lack of cohesion today

I don't get all the hate for Fabio. He's a local boy with a relatively high profile, and from recollection was involved in one of our earlier kit launches.

As it is, I didn't sense any discontent around me in SBR upper with many people clapping him before and after the interview.

Was waiting for one of the town subs to gatecrash his moment, like he gatecrashed their promotion celebrations...

Still leaves a bad taste in the mouth, the way he carried on then

Have you actually read the OP you're replying to? Where's the hate for Wardley? It's the stupid, OTT, Americanised nonsense coming out of the announcer people are complaining about.

I made my comment because I don't think I can recall a positive thread involving Wardley, and this appeared to me to be just another one.

You could very much tell he was on 4 yellows, which makes you worry for next week too because he will categorically not want to miss Leicester.

It was like the Watford away game last season (pre Norwich I think?) where he was avoiding a ban. He was almost non existent defensively because he had to be. Back then we could get away with it because Mass was so effective. Phillips isn't quite good enough to bridge the gap currently.

I don't dislike wardley.

But he has noting to do with the football club yet there's a really strange relationship between the two.

a niche perspective

The ridiculous 'OHHH FABIO WARDLEY' by the announcer lad was the real problem.

He reminds me of a few seasons of Soccer AM. Just unbelievably cringe.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

its cringey, but whats the guy to do ? if he doesnt try to gee the crowd up, he'll get blamed for being boring and not creating an atmosphere.

I mean literally the worst thing he could have done at half time yesterday was mirror the crowds mood, because we'd have been totally flat 2nd half, instead just mildy flat.

and Ive no doubt he was told, gee the crowd up at half time, we need the crowd

maybe it would help if the speakers werent set at eardrum splitting levels every so often, it was crazy Wardleys interview was perfectly audible normal volume, the bits either side of it were like turned up to 20, which just increases the dislike of those bits.
