Don’t think I’ve seen this said anywhere, and I don’t particularly like saying it, but think Morsy has looked off the pace a fair bit this season. MOTD even highlighted that central area as our real weakness.

Unfortunately, none of the others are impressing either tho.

Sure this will get slated to as he’s a bit like the NHS - not allowed to criticise it!

I thought central midfield was our issue last year too - it's far too easy to play through us and it offers very little protection to the defence. I do think those who are advocating adding a third player there might be on to something.

People are allowed to criticise who ever they want. It doesn't make them right though.

MOTD identified our midfield as being a problem to.

I have been calling for a third midfielder all season. Frees up Phillips to play how he should, but also protects the back 4 a little more. I think it is a no brainer.

Think him having the next yellow suspension is holding him back.

Just needs to get it and get it over with.

An aging somewhat thuggish journeyman was always going to struggle in rarified company - mind you he’s been thrown under a couple of buses by McKenna who has paired him with a weak rental trying to recover his form and is usually I outnumbered and easily by-passed.

Think most people's opinions were he shouldn't start every game,
Bigger issue is Phillips not overly impressing, cajuste not given a chance and louongo both injured but I'd say he's down the list leaves just Taylor who I like but seems MCK dosent trust him as a starter,
Certainly needs a shake up
Maybe only when morsy gets suspended we might hit gold but I'm sure he'd be straight back in, so a season of midfield struggles I forsee,

But you haven't mentioned franchises or mercenaries...

There have been a few criticisms of Morsy on the forum to be fair, and we all know he is not getting any younger. However, having two in the middle seems to be McKenna's usual game plan and it can be unfair to single a player out for getting overrrun (that applies to Phillips as well) when they are put on the spot to stay strong within the chosen tactics. You can even make a case that only the very best and strongest are suitable which proves how good the middle pairing is (and remains so when either Taylor or Luongo come on as substitutes.)

As for the NHS, it gets pelters all the time. And just carries on doing a great job that we should appreciate because from what I have seen elsewhere in the World it could be so much worse.

I think the big issue we also have is who do we play left wing? Clarke is green and is more of an impact sub, Hutchinson prefers the right, Szmodics would be out of position and Broadhead is finding his feet after injury. Whether we play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 that's still a headache to sort out.

Surely you mean ageing, thuggish, mercenary journeyman?

And 'he's been thrown under a couple of buses by Mckenna and the franchise'?

His strength last season was taking the ball in tight areas, turning his man and playing a pass. Yesterday things seemed to slow down when we went through him, and it made some of our movement look quite laboured.

I’m quite intrigued by the prospect of a Cajuste and Phillips partnership when Morsy has his ban soon….

Oh, I don't know. He has doubled up on buses and called Phillips a rental. Variations but it's still top trolling.

play a 3 in there, him deep in front of the defence with Taylor / Phillps / Cajuste (pick 2 from these 3)

Can you actually just for once stop slagging off our players/staff/ground/owners - in fact our entire Club - please.

It's still good but if yer playing the Elephant in the Room drinking game you really do need to hear the words mercenary and franchise. Though I do admit to also enjoying the mixing it up with the use of rental.

The main difference between Morsy and the NHS.... on 12:37 - Oct 20 with 2948 viewsBloots

....is that one has been managed really well recently and every ounce of value has been wrung out of it.

The other has been incompetently managed for years.

But both are now showing their age and need a refresh one way or another.

I feel for your Morsy guy a bit. No player can hold the midfield on their own, although they're often expected too. I mean, are they meant to sit on the opposition's string-puller or go with the runners?

I didn't see the game (or any of your games) so could well be chatting sh1t. Carry on...

He's just making it harder and harder to play Elephant in the Room bingo/drinking game. And it's to wet and windy to go outside and do anything else

May not have had the best game yesterday but he's played well for the most part, against Fulham he was outstanding.

Elephant in the room on 12:46 - Oct 20 with 2824 viewsLankHenners

Was discussed a bit yesterday. Doucoure and Gueye for Everton yesterday are both 30+ and pretty average CMs at this level but looked much more physically imposing and combative than our offering in that area of the pitch.

It’s arguably the position on the pitch you most notice the difference in class between the Prem and the Champ - as above even the so-so ones are built like tanks and are able to get around the pitch very quickly. Morsy is very slow both in terms of pace and moving the ball on. He’s used his low centre of gravity well at times to turn out of trouble but like everything else it’s much harder to do in this league.

Cajuste seems the sort of profile we need so hopefully he’s back soon and can get a run of games. Phillips seems to blow hot and cold for me as well - have to give him the benefit of the doubt that not playing for months means he’s lost a bit of consistency but between everyone they need to pull it together or we’ll keep getting dominated in there.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
