What a day. 20:20 - Nov 10 with 4213 viewsSitfcB

Emotions through the roof.

Days like today you look around the away end and see faces you’ve seen for years, some really good friends who you’ve shared many ITFC days with and some a bit more distant who you see now and then but the same respect, you all know you’ve been there and through it over the years.

Then you think about those not with us anymore and how much they would be loving it.

Then you have my 6 year old son absolutely loving it, he’s telling people at FT how it’s our first Premier League win in 22 years, he’s singing Liam Delap ole ole, high fives and fist pumps galore.

Then you think about yourself, my first live Premier League win as well, always a dream but never thought it would be fulfilled.

Then you think about those lads on the pitch, they have it everything, to a man superb. The ones that have been with us on this journey from league 1, wow, what a moment for them.

You leave the ground and see yet more faces, hugs, handshakes, high fives a happy world. Nothing else matters in these moments.

You mix all that up and of course at FT it’s a bit emotional, happy emotion that I think only football can do.

To those that watched from afar as well, what a moment.

This post is a bit rum and coke fuelled so sorry if it’s a ramble. Work tomorrow. Bloody hell.

Ipswich Town Football Club, I honestly don’t think there’s another club like it.

Enjoy Sits. Your generation have waited a long time to enjoy some good times. It's been 22 years wait for a win in the top flight. Worth the long wait I hope!

Agree Steve.

Hits different when you experience it with your kids as well and see the joy on their face. Then the fact we’ve had the ‘journey’ we have as a fanbase, it certainly makes days like today so much sweeter when you’ve been there for all the lows, some proper dark days following this club. Losing 3-0 in the league to Northampton was only 3.5 years ago. Then to see us in the big time, beating Spurs away. Proper pinch yourself stuff.

What a club.

Yes, nicely put. It was one of those great away days that will live long in the memory however this season goes. A really big psychological hurdle to get that first win, and the team continues to gets better by the match.

Stood outside waiting for a friend was good too, just so many familiar faces, all very happy. Good to see you and your son amongst them.

Reflecting tonight - we’ve gone from being the worst team to support 3 or 4 years ago, to arguably the best today.

Support the club no matter what so please don’t misinterpret “worst”.

Said much the same to my wife when I got in… she smiled and nodded politely and patiently.

But as you and Steve M have said on this thread, this win was for all of us.
All of us who have been there through the times when playing in the Premier League felt as realistic as playing on Mars.
All those familiar faces, some you know well and to speak to, some you know to say hello to and those who you recognise but are just familiar faces…. Those who you have seen at grounds and pubs the length and breadth of the country….. we once said we weren’t allowed to have nice things, but Gamechanger changed the game, and gave us Ashton & McKenna and now we have gorged on them.
A massive moment to enjoy.

Coming out of the ground, I saw the player’s coach in its compound and the driver was getting suitcases out, some will go off on international duty and others will have a few days away (AAH was spotted at the M1 services this evening, presumably on his way to Merseyside for a few days).

Then today will be a fond memory and it’ll be back to the hard work of trying to accumulate points in the Premier League, and upsetting the circus the Man U home game will be,

But for now, we’ll enjoy the moment.

Fair play, you’ve deserved that Sitters. We slightly more old ones were lucky back in the day. I grew up watching Robson’s sides (this is normal yeah?). And then it was only 10 years between Robson and Lyell (I was still only just turned 20). The only another 8 years to Burley’s PO win (still less than 30).

It was a wilderness after that - after Magic really, as we still had some good times then despite that being the start of the decline. Anyone who’s missed any of our more recent (but still so distant) successes and stuck with us through thick and thin deserves this moment. Enjoy and don’t take it for granted. You never know how long it will last.

Yep, just enjoy the moments and enjoy the ride.

Great away end yesterday with some good singing from some

Was surprised at how loud we were at times as had heard it’s hard to get an atmosphere going with how big the ground is.

Same for me. I never saw the Champions (that must have been surreal) but I was there for the Robson years and all that entailed. The fall, the Lyall rise, the fall, Burleys lovely team and its rise, then the ultimate fall.

Even under BFJ and Magilton, it all felt like it was slipping away. Evans era? Been done to death but I never thought I’d see the club recover and do what it’s done in the last 3.5 years. I couldn’t see a way out. Just relentless decline.

I’m still pinching myself from watching them walk out against Liverpool and am even more bruised after them winning at Tottenham yesterday. I hope those there enjoyed it. I went to their ground a few years ago to see NFL. I thought let’s see it as it’s meant to be the best. I’m never going to see ITFC there as long as I live, unless we get a cup draw. How wrong I was.

All those awful years. So many of them. I’m so pleased in particular younger people who really haven’t seen anything if they were too young for GBs team are witnessing something really special for the first time. Enjoy! Regardless of whether we survive or not this particular ancient crumbly is!

Kudos to all you away fans yesterday, you certainly played your part as our 12th man.

On TTV audio you came across as loud and proud - louder than the home crowd most of the time - in fact when SS scored, the roar was so huge before our commentators reacted that my heart sank as I thought we must have conceded!

Probably too busy crying after a 2-0 home defeat to Bristol City, followed by us beating Spurs away. Still, no doubt there will be a big event for them to celebrate winning a 2nd round game in the UEFA cup at some point for Nelly to look forward to.

As a Colchester fan, I think that the 'worst team to support' mantle hasn't gone far, geographically.

It would have been my Dads 80th birthday last Thursday and it saddens me to think that we lost him back in 2019 before the takeover and the arrival of McKenna. Fortunately his Grandkids are witnessing what is hopefully the rebirth of our beloved club.

I thought you were around in the old Prem days.

Lovely post though. Yep, it was special. I even rang my parents afterwards... and even though my dad's a West Ham fan he was so made up for me and us.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well I was around, but my first game wasn’t until 2002 and that was the FA Cup game against Man City.

My first live Premier League game was Liverpool in August

So true and good to see you at full-time. Seeing the smile on young Robson's face and what that meant to him reminded me of the feeling I had when I saw the faces of my own sons when they saw their first Premier League wins years ago. I never thought about it being your first too.

Everything you've said here is exactly what it is all about.

I go in a group of 8 and it was a first PL win for us all yesterday (the eldest of us was 2 last time we managed to get one ). It wasn't until one of us said that we were choking back tears at the whistle that we realised we were all in the same boat in that regard.

As others have said, 5 years ago I'd have thought it more likely that we would have gone bust than been in the Prem at this point. Yesterday was amazing and I feel very lucky to have those memories with the same group of us that have been going to away games ever since we had our own money and were allowed on the coach.

I think yesterday is second only to Barnsley and I'm gutted we've got to wait a couple of weeks for the next game.

Reading this brought a lump to the throat.
Remembering my 8 yo's first game when we won the old 2nd Division to go into the new Premier League
After that she thought that it was normal at the end of the game for somebody to award a silver cup and everybody to run on the pitch.

We can ask for no more than to pass our passions onto the next generation.

Then nearly 30 years later she up and buys her old man his first season ticket for many a year for my birthday. And has n't that been a 3 year ride.

Dont tell her this but thinking of it brings a tear to my old eye ...

I had better stop now.

My youngest was laughed at by his Spurs-following classmates last week for suggesting Ipswich would beat them. He had my full permission to go into school today wearing his match day scarf and is under strict instruction to milk it for all it’s worth.

Good for you but I like many can’t get away tickets due to PL and of course cost. In the past I would go to all London games plus a few more but now having to sit in front of telly.
Can’t understand why big grounds don’t allocate more seats to away fans but guess it’s all about money!

I was at the previous win at Spurs in 2001 and I only went to about 3 or 4 aways a season so I assume it was much easier to acquire tickets then. Not a chance these days.
