Has anyone bought any Marmite lately? Something has changed! 23:15 - Nov 13 with 3367 viewsLord_Lucan

The consistency has altered, it seems now to be more sloppy.

Disappointing.

It’s a lot quicker - the word ‘instant’ being a massive clue.

You just boil a kettle and tip it on the said instant mash ingredients don’t you, rather than having to boil the spuds and let them simmer away for the set time.

I don’t like marmite. Love Twiglets though. Weird.

I'm not a huge fan either but I had some marmite whipped butter once and that was delicious.

My dad brought over 2 jars of Elton John marmite last month, I did think it was runnier than normal but its been a while since I've had some, €8 a jar is scandalous!

Guess that's the sacrifice you pay for importing it

I'll give you plaudits for that, but others on here might give you a rocket, man.

No idea. I am ambivalent about Marmite.

Sainsbury's powdered instant mash, however, has been absolutely ruined. Now flakes rather than powder, which create, in essence, wallpaper paste. Foul.

Instant mash is a crime.

My mind pictures instant mash largely being used by lazy bastards and communists.

I love marmite and I love pork scratchings. Then I saw that they now do marmite flavour pork scratchings.

Why didn't they do this before I became a vegetarian?

Been on the unofficial Yeast Extract for years now. Tastes the same and saves like £2 every jar. Try it!

The mind boggles. Actual human beings eat instant mash? How much quicker is instant mash compared with actual mash? How joyless is your life?

These are very good to be fair

Pro tip from J2: It says to use 475ml of water. This creates rather sloppy mash. Use 400ml instead for perfect mash.

I saw cubes of frozen mash potatoes in Tesco the other day. Probably costs 5 x the price of the real potatoes needed to make mash.

Funny you and MJ should say that as I'm not a brand snob or averse to trading down to private label stuff, but fake Marmite is one I couldn't get on board with. Think it was Tesco but might've been JS, came with a blue lid and I thought it tasted odd.

Another such example is chocolate digestives. My wife made the mistake of buying something called Molly's as they were loads cheaper than McVities but you get what you pay for with them. I was fuming.

You might as well just buy vegemite

The only Marmite is Marmite, the rest are pale imitations
