Queue position 8914 12:05 - Nov 21 with 3037 views | victorysquad | Lets assume Man Utd would bring down an extra 6,000 if we gave them the tickets, if we assume there is demand for another 9,000 home fans, I reckon we could easily fill 45,000 for this one on Sunday. Just saying.

I know they're a big attraction however the numbers in the queue seem far higher verses other games, plus this one on Sky at a time that might be awkward for some.

It's sold out according to my brother who was 600 odd. Realistically there were probably only 20 odd on sale.

So far I have been approached by 9 different people asking if they can have my ticket for the day. See you there.

Adding a bit more capacity doesn't make huge sense unless you think we're in the PL for keeps (like in 2001). The extra financial return is small & dwarfed by what you get by staying in the PL. I don't see Bournemouth or Fulham rushing to increase capacity.

Would have been a good question for the Fans Forum...

Personally think they should buy all the tickets and then cancel the ticket when they see the seat number. All tickets have a 100% refund guarantee so the club would just get refunded its money and get to find out the scabby scalpers and barr their memberships. Its a win/win really.

390 away tickets available on that site. But - I simply don't believe they are real tickets and available. The idea that 1 in 8 away fans has put their tickets for sale and they remain on sale 3 days before a match... I know a few scouse fans quite well and I queried with them how come there were so many LFC tickets online through resellers and was told (by a lad who is quite well informed) that 90% of them aren't real. The reseller sites are harvesting interest as much from sellers as from buyers. So as bad as it appears - it probably isn't as it appears. Not saying there is no issue with people reselling tix - but I simply don't believe all those listed are in fact available. [Post edited 21 Nov 2024 17:33]

A far better idea of a sensible capacity is how many more season tickets we could easily sell and what demand there is for tickets for Brighton/Villa/etc. It is likely we will always sell out whatever capacity we have against Man Utd. It is about selling out the majority of matches rather than just the highest demand ones. The idea that there are people out there who will pay £200+ for a ticket is mad, though.

Ashton recently said that 40k is the right number.

That's the problem that Hertha Berlin used to have before they sh@t the bed and got marooned in the 2. Bundesliga. The 74k capacity of the Olympiastadion was great when Bayern, Dortmund, Or Union were in town, but otherwise they struggled to get much past 40k for normal matches. They had plans to leave the Olympiastadion and move to a new purpose-built arena with about 50k capacity, but I think those plans are on hold for now.

I’ve always said about 33k was enough, but not now. 35k to a max of 40k is enough I’d have thought, but who knows. What I do know is that tickets will become available up to Sunday. I couldn’t do the Everton game but didn’t know until the Sat morning. The club resold it within an hour.

Fulham just opened a brand new stand and increased capacity by about 4k. Also gave them lots of hospitality and commercial opportunities. That's why we will want to redevelop the stands. There is way more money in it than just a few thousand extra seats. Key thing for me is we need to be up for a couple of years minimum and look more comfortable, plus we need to make sure it's done smartly as an investment, perhaps with external funding. If we pay for the stands in a way that hurts our ability to compete, we're playing with fire.

Better bigger stadium gets more people in, engages people, especially young people (future support), offers an experience Sky and a tv set can never match. The logic of don’t bother is short term balance sheet correct. Take the our saviour Marcus route, let the ground go, sweat the asset - after all, the lions share of money as you point out comes from tv. But a football club should be more than that so I can’t agree. Fulham have actually increased their capacity with a state of the art stand. Palace are going to do the same. Others have already done it. Our 29k stadium loses 3k to away supporters, a chunk to media and there’s how many restricted view seats? The ground which is old and tired despite the makeover, needs a new lease of life. Do it, increase the capacity, make the place to be and it’ll help the club grow. Bournemouth? What they do is their affair. Fulham? Penned in by others. I think the infrastructure is worth investing in. The town and area needs it.
