Not some gaudy addidas rubbish. Not something for Portman Road where there is a roof. Something in which I can say "stick you, your mama too and your daddy" to wind, rain, and cold at youth and non league games, when combined with a waxed hat.

My current mountain warehouse coat is becoming snug, and not as warm as it used to be. I fancy something a bit more high end anyway.

Parkers are back in vogue. The sort us poor kids in the 80s were packed off to school in to have the piss ripped out of us constantly. But now they’re fashionable for some reason, and more importantly look warm and are fully waterproof.

I’ve even found one for you on sale

I picked up a black Penfield parka in TK Maxx, absolutely love it but wouldn't pay the full price for one.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I've got a Danger Mouse anorak, but I only wear it on special occasions.

I was thinking about getting one as a winter footie coat, but wasn’t sure how watertight they are (which is essential for this part of the world!).

£99 for a coat? Are you stark raving bonkers? You can buy a house for that.

My late dad used to wear a sheepskin like John Motson’s. He wasn’t a big bloke but it was like sitting next to a buffalo. The crushed in victim the other side wasn’t wholly impressed either.

I have a good ski jacket for the coldest, worst weather but it’s a bit bulky so the Barbour coat, which is fully waterproof, is the winter wear of choice. For slightly warmer, the waterproof golf jacket takes the strain.

Haha, but I’m sure you keep it on and provide it with a saucer of milk every so often.

Actually it looks very like my barbour coat, without the hood and ferret fur.

I saw somebody on the underground wearing a duffel coat on Saturday. I wonder if they’ll ever come back in to fashion? As a kid I loved mine as it was very warm.

I really feel the cold.

I have a mammut down jacket and it's unbelievable.

Could be used for a expedition too if you are so inclined.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Get yourself a Barbour coat then when you are not at football, wearing it out you can pretend you are a “poor farmer” being victimised by having to ay tax.
