Did we spend over 100m 21:20 - Dec 3 with 4362 viewschicoazul

On a bunch of players who simply aren’t good enough?
It’s increasingly looking like it.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

Delap, Hutchinson and O'Shea must be worth £100m on their own.

I always think this is slightly naive to be mentioned this early in the season either way, but if we put those up for sale in January I don't think we're getting 100m.

Ultimately we're seeing that as a newly promoted side getting genuine Prem ability is incredibly difficult because if a player has that genuine ability then they'll have offers from more established clubs.

So we rely on the potential and being able to realise that as soon as possible, but they're playing in a struggling team which often makes the process longer.

Don't see how people can blame the board or club though it's reality for any newly promoted side.

Were they not good enough when we beat Spurs or are you just grumpy chops because we’re losing at the moment? You’re sounding like you’ve been spoilt by the last two season.

Things aren’t as good as they could or possibly should be but give it a rest. You thrive on negativity.

Whatever we spent on players, who we brought in, I always thought our most significant signing of the summer was retaining the manager on an extended contract (rather than letting him move on and replacing him - there would have been no shortage of candidates from home and abroad) and we will see what value he brings in the short and longer term.

Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing.

I can't think of any other squad in this league that cost £100m.

Our summer spending may have given us a chance. It's not like we're cut adrift at the bottom, is it?

Not really, Palace have two English players worth over £100m between them, it's just a huge gap to bridge.

I do appreciate the differences

However when we were last promoted to the prem. Those differences in values were similar to now weren't they? In magilton we have morsy. Holland is cajuste. Stewart is delap. Etc etc.

a niche perspective

Yawn

Rainbows, lots of money (peanuts in reality)

Got anything positive in yer locker?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

But every team has been there at least 2 years except Leicester and Southampton who've been there several years bar one. They've all spent hundreds of millions on their squads and brought in top quality overseas players.

It's a different world from 2000-01 as Scowie mentions in his piece. We came up with a way of playing that took teams by surprise. For a year. There are no surprises nowadays with everyone aware of all the data.

Cajuste was the best player out there tonight. We needed 5 signings like him.

The turn of the century was a different era compared to now for the Premier League. Television money had less impact, parachute payments didn't exist and neither did the money clubs of Manchester City, Chelsea or Newcastle. Plus we had five years of honing our approach under Burley in the Championship, gradually developing our squad. We brought in just one ('new') player who became a regular in Hreidarsson, whilst Reuser signed permanently after a loan spell. It was just a very different time, for both the club and the league.

No. We spent over 100m on players to attempt the bridge the massive chasm between the Championship and the Premier League. There is very clearly an athleticism gap and we can only reinforce so far.

100% agree on that. Most sides seem to have an eleven that would easily compete in the Olympic
Decathlon final.
