Seems high for him. Don't think he's premier league and not seeing him having done nearly enough for that move. If we get him I'll support him and I'm not saying he's not a good player. But would think we will be after better. He would be a decent 3rd choice but I'm hoping we are going for a few top players.

Yep, always been a fan, seems to have not quite lived up to the hype but good experience and perfect if we don’t make it and go down.

I mean its a lot of money and I've definitely become desensitised to those sorts of figures, but when you consider his age and record in the Championship it doesn't feel unreasonable. Similar money to Szmodics and younger. Half what we were rumoured to be offering for Latte Lath and a similar age. Valid question marks about whether he's Premier League ready, which is true of a lot of our additions.

I can't say I've been overly impressed the few times I've seen him, but its going to be incredibly difficult to get someone in January, who is "happy" to play 2nd/3rd fiddle as Delap is going to be our starter most weeks.

And Delap at this moment in time looks a shoe in for the starting spot Up front. So unless we can better him then whomever comes in will be 2nd/3rd fiddle. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Josh Maja, WBA striker… on 23:40 - Dec 30 with 3905 views | Pique | Didn't come across well in Sunderland 'Till I Die, his career seemed driven by quite an activist agent, which I doubt McKenna and Ashton will like much. Mind you, that's probably true of most players tbf.

why does anyone think we are looking to sign a second or third choice player? That hasn't really been the way we have operated under game changer, especially not in a position as important as striker?

I think we'd have to pull something extremely special out of the hat to sign a striker that's seen as a starter over Delap!

I'd prefer the term, an alternative to Delap In August we wanted another striker who at that point would have probably been first choice frankly We have lucked out that Delap is as good as he is because the likes of Ionidis particularly would have started as the 9 and we have paid for not getting that extra striker through the door, it's certainly cost us some points I still think Delap is probably an inside forward rather than an out and out number 9, even if that is the position he will end up playing I've no doubt we'll be as ambitious as we can be for a role as important as this, hopefully we have targets identified and will get them done early Then Ali can get his loan to the Championship, which was mooted in the last window

That's how I see it as well. You can't replace Delap but we have to be looking at that level or potential level. Someone who can take the load. Hirst is capable but I proven as well of course. Money is of course an issue so it might be a little needs must. I imagine he is on a list of 10 or so.

Could we get both Hirst maybe be made available on loan as to free up a squad space and Al Hamadi?

No, we couldn't. We don't have a 100m budget.

I think a fee around 10m would leave us more funds in the bank to also improve other areas of the squad. If we're looking higher, you're talking 20m+ when we still need 2 or 3 other players imo.

Let's be honest we don't see enough of any players we buy to make a judgement. What I don't want is a situation where it takes weeks or we spend ages on it and then it don't happen or they are injured on their arrival need to arrive fit ready to go.

Good for you but I think you will have trouble persuading him if Premier League Clubs are genuinely interested.
