What will Philogene bring to us 13:25 - Jan 9 with 2286 viewsVic

that we haven’t already got? Genuine question and not in an6 way criticising.

Is it strength in depth - so 8mprove our starter finisher approach? Is he replacement for J Clarke? Is is he a rival for Hutch?

He will be another player that will ensure less of a drop off in quality before and after subs are made.

Another player whose name the majority of idiots won't be able to spell when they are making him a scapegoat?

Stength in depth.... KMc likes to have 6 players who can do one or two of the 3 positions behind the striker.... Ogbene is injured, J Clarke hasn't shown much.... Chaplin and Broadhead have not been able to consistently deliver.... I think its reasonably to be improving here.

In true TWTD style.

Nothing, no better than we have, spent way over the odds and more than we would have spent in the summer.

Shocking signing.

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

Great depth piece.

He is a really talented 1v1 dribbler. Can beat defenders multiple ways and always thought he was a pretty good finisher as well.

He is like a really really Poor mans Neymar. Which would still make him a pretty good player. He just has a similar sort of playstyle to him, moves the ball in quite similar ways.

The ability to keep the ball, win fouls and get up the pitch.

Have got that in Delap, got it in Hutch, need it in the other front men.

‘‘Twas a genuine question; just being inquisitive as I really don’t know anything about him. Wondering what the hive mind of TWTD is about his strengths.

He plays predominantly off the left doesn't he? It does feel like we are a bit over stocked on that side if this goes through; Philogene, Szmodics, Clarke, and Broadhead. Interesting that we will have spent around 45 million combined for the 3 in that position that arrived this year.

I definitely think Philogene is an excellent signing, I just wonder how we will make it work with that many options in one position. I wonder if there is any chance of letting Jack Clarke go out on loan? Seems odd to think given the fee we paid, but I don't see him getting game time, I would say he is 4th choice of the names mentioned above given how good Broadhead has looked in the last couple of games.

Ball carrying.

Our "success" this season has come from packing the back end and relying on three or four fast, ball-carrying attackers.

Clarke has shown he's not quite (yet) at the level of a Hutch, or even a Broady, so having another pacey option is only ever going to be a good thing for us.

It's aimed at giving us squad strength. KM obviously feels he can get Philogene operating at PL level, as based on his performance for AV, he's been looking more like Champ/L1 level. We believe in KM, so we hope he can get Philogene to step up a level. We know it's not easy, Jack Clarke being a perfect example how one of the top Champ players can look very ordinary in the PL.
The Ogbene injury has also not helped, clearly he's out for the season and we need similar type cover there, ie some speed.

Ball carrying - ability to counter attack. We arent good enough or quick enough getting forward at the moment, he will help that massively. He's quick and tends to beat his man. Similar to Omari.

Sunderland are going for it as they're about to sign Le Fee on loan from Roma with a big obligation to buy if they go up. I wonder if they might try the same with Clarke.

Might be that Omari injury is worse than initially reported. Broadhead is coming back from injury too. Chappers is injured Ogbene is out. I thought same as you but in hindsight it’s an excellent signing.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

That is certainly a possibility that I have considered too; is Omari is out for a month even, we would be very light in the attacking options, particularly as he has been playing the full game on occasion. We need ball carriers that can relieve pressure on the defence nearly as much as those who can create chances.
