Sorry, yes not saying we could be buying him, it was more a comparison of players who play similar positions.

As Bloots says, wages will be higher but I'm sure we're not paying Philogene £5k a week either.

I think it seems mental that he was going for £18mill in the summer prior to Villa activating the clause and now, having done very little so far this season, his value has increased! I suppose that's the January window in nutshell and as you say, an interesting comparison to the foreign market.

Nothing like Philogene then

They’re all forwards. But you already knew this.

Or if I go by your logic how do you know they’re not looking to replace a winger with a striker?

Indeed, I’d imagine wages will be quite different, but it is a bit disheartening looking from a fee perspective. If we manage to stay up this season, we’ll be a much more attractive proposition and could attract some much better players and importantly, have the income to do so.

We are very proud to say that we have “X” amount of players in the squad who were playing League 1 a couple of seasons ago, but this is the opposite of a brag in the Prem, it’s the reason we are relegation threatened and it’s certainly not a massive draw for players we are trying to get in, they want to see quality players coming in to make them feel comfortable they’re making a good decision to join us. We are certainly heading the right way with the likes of Godfrey (experienced Prem player) Philogene, Hutch and Delap who have huge potential.

Villa agree fee for Malen (Philogene replacement) (n/t) on 13:52 - Jan 13 by ElderGrizzly

So they're paying the same amount for a 25 year old, Champions League final playing, 41 cap player as we are for a 21 year old with about 5 PL games behind him?

Maybe it's not such a great deal for us/by Ashton?

Currently playing for a CL side, moving to a CL side.

As much as we all love our club, let's not get carried away with our current stature.

After Emery's comments about Philogene, I didn't get the impression Emery was going to play him even if he stayed. He certainly indicated Philogene wasn't at the PL level he was hopeful of. So not sure waiting to find a replacement is relative.

And you don’t think receiving a £20m transfer fee might help pay for a £20m player?

Not sure we could afford the 100K+ per week that Malen will be getting - considering he's already on 100K / week at Dortmund, I would imagine he will be only heading upwards from there

That wasn't the question I was answering. The question was based around AV not selling Philogene until they had a replacement. My reply was based on Emery not thinking Philogene is good enough for the PL, so pointless keeping him even without a replacement.
Yes £20m sale, will help with a £20m purchase, but if AV is that short of money you would think they would want to make sure Philogene was sold before buying another player. If not the sale could fail leaving them with both players and £20m blackhole

“The word on the street” suggests that Emery likes Phil, but doesn’t think he’s doing enough to warrant a starting berth and Phil is unhappy (and outspoken about it) as he believes he deserves more minutes.

I’m not sure Phil wanted to go back to Villa tbh, he’d left the place to get more minutes, but didn’t have much of a choice when they activated the contract clause.

I do get the impression from Emery’s comments that there’s more to it, like you say.

Villa agree fee for Malen (Philogene replacement) (n/t) on 13:09 - Jan 13 by Stewart27

I think it’s quite naive to think otherwise.

It’s like saying that a chain is irrelevant when buying or selling a house.

That analogy works, but in a different way. You can ignore the chain of you’ve got sufficient money to buy another house. Villa can easily afford another house.

It could well be the case that they want a replacement first, but given he’s not playing you’d think they wouldn’t be so precious.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I would imagine he'll be on close to £150k p/w at Villa.

The murmurings from within Villa (validity questionable) were that he wasn’t keen on a return, unless guaranteed minutes (which makes sense as he left the club for game time, literally a few months before).

Impossible to say for certain on whether he had a say in the move, all depends on how the contract was written, but it wouldn’t be unusual for the terms to state that Hull would be “obligated” to contract with Villa, should they meet the offer made by another club, which would give the player no choice at all, it’s a contractual obligation.

The only update was the title, from fee agreed to officially signed.

You spent the rest of the thread arguing that us signing Philogene was dependant on Villa signing Malen which was and is completely wrong you silly sod.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

If even the manager of Aston Villa can't evidence that you were wrong, I'll leave you to argue with yourself. The deals are clearly linked. Quite basic.

Why do people keep pretending this has anything to do with the Philogene deal?

Not sure what the villa manager is talking about, just looking for attention I suspect. Henk has already confirmed the deals aren't linked
