George Hirst.
Think maybe some are too quick to dismiss Hirsty.
Susceptible to injuries but many players are and he's worked hard to get back again. Don't forget how good he was in the small number of games he featured in. Great at Brentford and very important cameo at Spurs.
Looked very sharp in the cup game.

Yeah, it's just the sense that some seem to think we need a 20m striker. As lovely as that would be, they won't be starting with Delap. Hirst's work ethic, his understanding of how we play, happiness to make an impact from bench might be the best choice instead of chasing a striker purchase that might be very difficult to pull off.

Our strategy with one up front relies on that one giving his all for 75 minutes or so, would be unrealistic and unreasonable to expect more, then the substitute must be able to sustain a high level for the rest of the game, Hirst when fit, then we need a third capable (sadly not AAH yet) to cover absences. We have 3 in the squad for the number 1 position, same needed for number 9. | |

I think the 5 sub rule has changed the game significantly and in our case it was used well in our promotion seasons as an active part of the strategy. Subs are no longer there to cover an injury or to try to change a game tat hasn't gone to plan. 3-4 players will start a game knowing that unless something goes drastically wrong they do not have to pace themselves to complete the game. Modern subs know how they will play their very important part in the strategy. A sub is far more than the secondary support role it used to be. Modern players know that. | |

We really need an upgrade on Al Hamadi. Someone who can develop but is more ready to be 3rd choice right now. Then Al Hamadi can go on loan.
Alternatively we need someone who is on a par with Hirst/Delap and who will then be playing regularly. That takes pressure off the other two but leaves the problem that if all 3 stay fit and available, will they all be happy with the pitch time they get.
I expected us to go back for Latte Lath or Ioannidis. It appears we haven't done so but who knows? |  |

I've seen nothing dismissive about Hirst. I think a lot rate him highly.
I could personally see him getting better and better.
He's missed 35 games in the last season and a half that's the concern. |  |
