Recent ex-players you'd have loved McKenna to have coached 14:24 - Jan 29 with 3788 viewsitfc48

We all know McKenna and his team are super coaches who have improved every player at the club. I often wonder which players from the Cook, Lambert and Hurst teams would have thrived under McKenna. A few names to start with:

Teddy Bishop
Keanen Bennetts (wild I know but he had something)
Armando Dobra
Gwion Edwards (similar profile to Burns)

yep, I'd said Delap was an obvious exception !!!

I think, as another poster - gsoly - says, in most cases it is very hard to spot.

I feel that if we survive it will be because one or two others also show great improvement in the next few months.

You did (I didn't read that far!).

Hutch has improved under KM.

KP has improved, at least confidence wise since joining.

I'd argue Cajuste has also improved.

I also know Sammy S has as well, his fitness levels have increased dramatically since joining.

I was there the day he pulled on the shirt.

I have never seen anything like it in my time supporting town.

Imagine if at 60 minutes McKenna could swap him with Larsen Toure!

On a more serious note, a fully fit Emyr Huws under McKenna would have been exciting.

Goes without saying that Bishop, Downes and Dozzell would be three who’d have immediately benefited from McKenna. Even imagine the type of impact he could have had on Luke Chambers had Cook not given him the kick, he could have been an asset in the squad in 21/22. He’s been as good at motivating and utilising veteran players like Keogh as much as he has the likes of Clarke.

Downes, without a doubt. Gutted we couldn’t get him back in the summer.

Tyron Mings

Jonathan Walters
Luke Hyam
Josh Carson

I could go on....

Luke Hyam?

Mckenna's good, but he's not a miracle worker.. to say Hyam was limited is being polite...

I know KM’s good but he’s not Jesus (miraculous healing).

Celina for me. Oodles of talent but seemed a bit vulnerable. I’m sure there was more there.

Jon Stead, Alan Lee, Kuqi - that physical forward role that McKenna loves. Would have been interesting to see how he'd have worked with those three.

Legwinski, Norris in the midfield options as well!

Dan Harding - left back assist king in the mold of Davis?

McKenna wants to worry about who's in the building Now. He hasn't learned them how to defend constantly vulnerable.

I'll play devil's advocate on this. And I'm a massive McKenna fan, so this is just to hear the thoughts of others.

I agree he improved players massively until we arrived in the PL. It was quite extraordinary what he achieved.

However, is it fair to say that it is less clear that he (and his team) have done the same with players who arrived this season? (Delap the obvious exception, obvs.)

I agree.

I couldn’t disagree more. We’ve had about 8 or 9 of our L1 team step up and not look out of place in the Prem. Many fans thought the Championship would be beyond them.

I couldn't agree more. The players who gave been with us since L1 have when given the chance stepped up again and we can give KM credit for that. However with the exception of Delap, there is little sign of improvement from the Championship players signed in the summer, yet. Perhaps our L1 players know from experience the importance of coaching in achieving success while most of the Championship players generally have never even had success.

Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing.

People keep unfairly writing off our L1 heroes as well. They’ve not played any worse than the players we’ve brought in.
