I'll say it here now... 12:14 - Feb 3 with 4360 viewshoppy

As disappointing that Saturday was and the mood on here since, I still believe we're going to do it and stay up.
Might be by the skin of our teeth, maybe on the last day and possibly even down to a very tight goal difference, but that would be as much as we need.
With 14 games left, I'm not giving up hope or belief.

I'd almost given up Hoppy, but that half time in Escape to Victoryesque speech as suddenly bucked me up. Thanks

It's Definitely not over yet! Saturday was disappointing and will have massively effected everyones confidence that we can do this but as I've stated before we need to get to 35 points, it doesn't matter where those points come from. Ideally, you want to take them from your rivals as it makes the job easier but 3 points is 3 points and we have shown that we can take points from games we're not expecting them from already this season.

We just need to hope that the players coming in make the difference from being in games to taking them by the scruff of the neck.

A good chunk of hope was knocked out of me on Saturday but it's not gone. Fans need to play their part too though. A toxic atmosphere will help no one and will just cause more nerves in the team. I don't expect fans to stay and applaud if things aren't going our way but booing at our team during or after games will not help anyone.

Recent games have been a proper kick in the balls, but we need to remember it wasn't so long ago we turned over Wolves away, beat Chelsea 2 zip, went to Fulham and probably deserved to win. Really its only Saturday & Brighton in our last 10 games where you would say they were dropped points vs. expectation. I don't think we played too badly on Saturday, just some of that decision making in the final 3rd and a couple of really cheap goals to give away. On another day we could've won it 2-1 and the sentiment would be entirely different. All if's and but's though innit.

We've still got Wolves at home, now that IS a must win. Its unlikely we'll stay up but its in our hands, and tbh if we were 3 points behind with 4 games left I wouldn't be ruling us out so I'm certainly not with 14 left.

Admire the positivity, but the game was there for the taking with 30 mins left on Saturday. And the players had zero confidence or belief in breaking one of the worst ever PL teams down.

Fixture list is royally f**king us too, with Villa (buoyed by Asensio and Rashford signing) and Spurs (rejuvenated with first-choice defenders back) up next.

If you'd said to be before the season started that we'd beat Chelsea and Tottenham and still get relegated, I'd have been sceptical. We need to find some confidence from somewhere, perhaps the Coventry game is it. I still think we can do it.

I think the team’s confidence will come flooding back simply through them knowing they have a trustworthy keeper behind them tbh!

One thing you can never do it write of McKenna and his problem solving, still there will be more twists and turns.

We play a number of clubs that are deep in Europe and might start flagging so you'd think we could pick up some points.

However, I was never confident we would stay up, such a huge ask given our recent trajectory, and whatever happens we will be in a far stronger position.

Hmm McK doesn't seem to have problem solved consistently in the PL imo
Our chances of staying up, given our levels so far, are very low IMO

I've been pretty despondent since Saturday but you simply do not give up on this manager. He will have the players ready to go again. It's a three-team league and we're three points off the top. Logically, it's 100% possible.

There was that spell last season, around this time of year, when Leeds and Leicester were faltering, and the number of spurned opportunities we were given and didn't take, as it seemed nobody wanted to move into that advantage position, shows we don't do things the easy way.

THAT gives me hope.

Some of the results late last season came from absolutely nowhere didn't they.

I know it didn't ultimately hurt Leicester but:

Millwall 0-1
Plymouth 0-1
Bristol City 0-1
QPR (H) 1-2

Leeds obviously went belly up after the March break including the famous Loftus Road night They looked like winning the league before that.

We were kind of falling over each other trying to get over the line and some of the results were probably regressions to the mean given all three of us were on course for 100 plus points. We were able to have a 10 day reset before going again at Hull.

That kind of gives me hope. Just feels all a bit 'what if' currently.

One game at a time, we go again, 100% effort is all we can ask for, it's not easy to predict where points will come from but the back end of the season often throws up strange results as tension mounts. Who thought Leeds were going to lose away at QPR at the end of last season? There will be more twists and turns, we as fans need to play our part and back the team as best we can.

Agree, it's only 3 points and the three clubs down here with us, we have the best coach and potentially the better squad when fit.

I still think it's down to us and Wolves. I think Leicester are gone without reinforcements this window too.

We're going to win some we didn't expect to and lose some we didn't expect to, but that will be the same with us all down here.

I very respectfully disagree with you, but hope you are right.

I think we've lost the most important battle already, the head. We came out looking beat and came away looking accepting of it. We didn't play worse than Southampton, we just didn't have it in us to win it, and that's why we will drop. If we can't be motivated to beat the worst team in Premier League history, at home, when we are a point from safety then how can we motivate ourselves to do better against far superior teams? Wolves are yards ahead of Southampton for example, as are Everton, West Ham, and so on.

Where are the points coming from?

We will be relegated sadly. Recruitment was not good enough, and tactics were naive, we must learn and rebuild for next season.

I agree - but keeping the faith alone won't keep us up! We need to see an improvement on the field and at the moment it's actually going the other way!

But however I feel it's still my job to support and encourage the team. Moaning and grumbling will not help. I'm really disappointed how critical some people have become of the players and even of the management. It serves no purpose other than to make things worse!

So COYB!

Of course, keeping the faith alone won't do it. And we absolutely need to see an improvement.. but the gap between failing and achieving that realistic goal isn't that great that we need to write it off in February with 14 games left, in my opinion.

I don't think we have written it off, I think the players have. Thats the issue.

The one thing in our favour is that it looks like it will require the lowest points total in PL history to stay up.

We're still in touching distance, but we need to nik a win or two no matter how ugly, very soon.

I’m struggling to see us staying up. Too many things going wrong at the same time (not taking our chances, midfield a bit porous, the wobbles at the back). Maybe this new keeper will help though. I’ve certainly not given up hope that we’ll improve, but the parts of the puzzle aren’t fitting together so far.
