Nah, we need more than a solid keeper. We needed one that'll help us retain possession and actually get our creative players into the game. Shot-stopping is a prerequisite (as Roy Keane attests). The GK position is the biggest screw up of our squad this season and we're just compounding it with Palmer, I'm afraid.
But we needed a CM even more TBH, given that Morsy's energy bar is flashing red and Cajuste is a knee injury waiting to happen.

The scattergun approach in the summer where we seemed to sign a player every two to three days has been our ruin. Wasted tens of millions on Championship players that offered little if any improvement to the squad. Should have held half that money back to see what we REALLY needed come January which is now clearly evident. We have about a dozen wingers and two strikers. Awful team/squad management by the CEO and manager. Hopefully Ashton will learn. McKenna will be long gone come the next transfer window. [Post edited 3 Feb 20:35]

I agree with the Palmer signing; think it's a sensible one considering our current situation. But no central midfielder or striker? I would have personally gambled on bringing Iheanacho in on loan from Sevilla if we didn't have any other options. And presumably the lack of finances available for Downes makes me really regret the signing of Clarke (at this stage). | |
