You've not said who you want to take it back from.

Come on now, you've made the statement so explain it.

There’s an element of that, but also people are getting left behind due to a lack of investment in their communities, the breakdown of traditional employment and more self-employed or gig economy jobs, etc.

that's very true. there is also a problem with two thirds of the population opposing current mass migration, and it being one of the biggest issues for them, but that issue being ruled out of legitimate debate. that creates for many a strong sense of powerlessness and being ignored. if you want to understand why people reject mainstream politics and turn to an git like farage it is in big part because mainstream politicians don't listen or (in the case of the tories) do the opposite to what they claim. it is true across europe - an insistence on pursuing mass migration with no popular mandate is pushing voters to the political fringe. or just pretend none of it is happening i guess.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Ruled out of legitimate debate? Mainstream politicians have wanged on about little else for the last 10 years! There are issues that have a far bigger real terms impact on our day to day lives that they are much more reluctant to talk about.

So why do they think Farage would be any different? Is it because they're easily conned by lies and soundbites? Let's be honest, these same people voted for Brexit and still can't explain why.

You just sound like you want to support the racists on this one - it’s been a major issue for years. It’s been over represented constantly in the media.

As for the “other demographic” stuff that makes no sense when the evidence is there and the explanation for why there’s an issue with understanding migration by the majority of Brits.

if you were to write such condescending, dismissive, and hostile stuff about any other demographic you would be labelled a bigot. that more in common report on ' progressive activists' is well worth a read.

You think what I wrote is hostile? Nothing compared to what hate preacher Farage and co have written and said for the last twenty years or so.

"Mainstream politicians have wanged on about little else for the last 10 years"

well that's not actually true is it. regardless of what they said, under the last 4 years of the tories we had net migration of some 3 million. there was absolutely no political mandate for it - all the main parties ran on manifestos to massively reduce it and all the polls show that the public hugely oppose it. but they've been completely ignored - which is why farage now has a lead in the polls. the more in common report is great on how the shouty 'progressive activists' seek to delegitimise it as an issue and demonise the demographic who raise it (see a post on the previous page for how to do that).

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

You think immigration as been ruled out of legitimate debate?
Where the hell have you been for the last few years?
Stop the boats
Protect our borders
It's been discussed regularly by our politicians for years.

Compare it to subjects like the 5 million plus children living in poverty in the UK and its absurd to suggest its 'been ruled out of legitimate'.

By supporting Farridge and his like you're literally supporting fascism and that means you would have supported Hitler as the narrative is almost identical. You are literally backing people who make nazi salutes. Yes, immigration needs to be sorted but does that mean you want 'them' exterminated? You can't plead ignorance when awful atrocities start happening as that is their final solution regardless of the softer language they're currently using to swing votes. Sad times.

People want someone to blame for either their drop in living standards, failure in life or because modern day Britain is(in their heads) at odds with the Britain that they few up in - mainly white. The fact that Britain is still 90% Anglo-Saxon doesn’t matter as they see one brown face they see a thousand.

It’s easier to blame others and to support a hate preacher like Farage rather than accept the fact that they didn’t make the most of whatever opportunities they had. You know the lad who messed about at school, didn’t do any work and left school with no qualifications and ended up in a lowly-paid job, married someone he hates and has kids that will repeat the cycle. Not his fault, but it’s the fault of someone who lived thousands of miles away.

The irony is, that the tell-it-like-it-is mob who say that they take responsibility for their actions, tend to be the mob who get the most offended or, always make excuses.

I'm not sure about ' the lad who messed about at school, didn't do any work and left school with no qualifications ' line is very true or helpful. To me it's just an enormous sweeping statement that stereotypes a certain portion of society for no reason.
Unless your suggesting that the only people supporting Farage are uneducated working class types that left school at 16?

Love Leitrim, one of those kids that messed around at school, didn't do any work and and left school at 16 with no qualifications

I’ve aired my views in the past, I’ve met plenty of other nationalities through work , mostly decent people who contribute and add value to the country, but then there are plenty who don’t, and exploit the system, some dangerous criminals, better checks and better monitoring, and people who are needed for industry etc. I just don’t agree with people being called a nazi or a racist . When clearly they are not. And I’m not talking about the ones on the news, just generally half decent people who post on here.

Thanks for the condescending reply btw.

There are also plenty of non immigrants who do all you say.

Unfortunately, no government in the last 15 years has been honest about this. We have a Ponzi schme. Our ageing population and refusal to pay low end jobs with a living wage or to stomach tax levels that pay for our needs, means we need significant immgration to function.

Certain parties then weaponise that by endless constant reference to stopping boats etc (a TINY proportion of the issue but a MASSIVE proportion of the coverage and discourse) for political gain. And certain groups lap that up because its easy to blame others.
