I’m not getting carried away but I think we win the FA Cup 19:24 - Mar 2 with 5262 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

If we win tomorrow

If we go through, it would be:

Us
Man City (tough)
Preston (we’d be favs)
Brighton (winnable)
Villa (tough but winnable)
Fulham (winnable)
Palace (winnable)
Bournemouth (winnable)

Blimey surely you’re not talking to me of all people about bloody odds of all things. Me?

Obviously I know it’s unlikely. And obviously I was being purposely OTT. I don’t think if we win tomorrow we win the FA Cup. I’m just saying we’re bang in with a shout. A far greater shout than any other time in my lifetime.

That's more because of our woeful FA Cup record this century. We could have been a better position last season had it not been for Maidstone - but perhaps we wouldn't have gone up because of it.

Why wouldn’t anybody be able to talk to you about odds? Maybe I’ve missed something but when have you beaten the odds more than you’ve lost to the odds? Let alone being above anybody even talking to you about odds?

I respect your optimism and hope you’re right, but don’t talk like that guy in the bookies that shouts from the rooftop about his wins and doesn’t mention his losses. Which is what you do.

Have you been tasked with drumming up extra business?

Though we did go four consecutive PL games without losing near the start of the season..

Haha honestly our fans are such negative nellies. Can’t say anything without someone pouring cold water on it.

I was joshing with my comment earlier, got to believe, always got to believe. Especially when it comes down to the league, the last two years have been the same, people giving up too early.

Where’s the fun in not believing?

Like the Cunha red card, it’s a little win that could help us, yes we’ve got to do our bit, but it injects a little bit of hope in you.

I was going to argue the issue is we've shown no signs of doing our bit. But I suppose, relatively speaking, the same could be said of us after the 0-0 draw at Bristol Rovers. And then...

Forest are the highest team in the league remaining in the Cup but by beating them tomorrow we should then consider all others as beatable. I belive that's what you're saying and it makes perfect sense.

Exactly. Thank Christ for that somebody has understood.

At one point it was virtually suggested I’d declared us the undisputed champions if we win tomorrow.

I just think some optimism goes along way

You silly goose. Nothing to do with my punting whatsoever.

I am quite literally a professional odds compiler making the odds for our firm for various markets. I actually updated the FA Cup outright odds after the third round.

He’s had an absolute stinker.

I’m not very good at plenty of things. Odds compiling is not one of those I struggle with though. Hence quite literally earning very good money doing it day in, day out. Obviously a huge amount is horse racing but it’s quite literally a market I adjusted and updated after the third round 5/6 weeks ago and we have taken (I’ve just checked before I leave here) about £15k in stakes since that day on it.

Our worst result of those left is Bournemouth for what it’s worth if anyone cares

Games against Forest and Brighton, 2 teams we have failed to beat so far this season. Assuming we got past those opponents, then would probably have Man City to face who have spanked us 4-1 and 6-0 this season. Yup, cup has our name on it.

Us v Preston in the final.

We would have only had a home match in the 3rd round too.

Win the FA Cup and get relegated.

Or lose tomorrow, beat Forest in the league and stay up.

Which would you prefer? I reckon winning the cup but it's got to be a close call.

Sad as I feel saying it, losing to Forest tomorrow and beating them in the league leading to survival will probably have a more positive impact on the club in the long run.

I have to agree. If this was our sliding doors moment, I’d always take Premiership survival over winning the FA cup this year. That can wait until next year

Sadly true.

If we got relegated, dominated the league next season and got promoted as Champions having won the FA Cup it would be great. But, we would probably go through a few rounds in Europe and miss out on promotion and see the side picked apart instead.

Truth is that the FA Cup win would never be taken away. It has to be worth more than just Premier League survival even though financially it clearly isn't.

I don’t even think it’s a close call.

Obviously us winning an actual domestic trophy would be above playing premier league football. I’d trade the next 15 seasons being back in the championship if it meant we won a proper trophy. That’s the peak for football fans! To win proper domestic trophies

I’m afraid you are getting carried away, we’ve won three all season against PL opposition. In terms of possibility yes we can but it’s very unlikely from where I sit. That said we still go out to try and win each game.

Don't get why everyone's got such an issue with this really.

We're down to the final 9 in a competition which no longer includes Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Spurs, Chelsea or Newcastle.

Man City also have a very difficult QF draw.

Of course it's unlikely, of course we'll probably lose tonight and, even if we don't, will be pretty big underdogs against Brighton. Nonetheless, it's the best chance we've had in this competition for decades.

Were Wigan much better than us when they won it?
