A 90 minute Premier League game is too long for a team that can't score.

As some other posters have said to that if you’re constantly close but no cigar you’re simply not good enough. Tough tough league, this season has been a complete eye opener for me after 20+ years being out of the PL, it’s a completely different beast nowadays. No fault of the players, we just aren’t there yet.

A lot of games last season were fine margins, but we came out on the right side of them. If you have 17 points from 28 games, you're not good enough

We didn’t sign Premier League quality players to supplement what we had.

That’s the million dollar question, how do you buy 8-10 players costing circa 50 million each for £120 million, answers on a post card.

Ultimately, yet again, we haven't taken any of our chances when on top... you say fine margins, that won't stop us from getting relegated..

We’d have to look at what Villa and Forest did to bridge the gap. One thing we know doesn’t work is paying over the odds for Championship standard players to supplement a squad of Championship players.

Forest broke the financial rules and Villa is not a comparison as they have not come up from the 3rd tier, they have only been out of the top flight for 3 years in the last 30+ years.

The comparisons closest are Bournemouth and Brighton but again neither of those have been out of the top flight for as long as us.

The simple problem is that the financial rules actually now prevent a promoted club who have been out of the top flight for more than 5 years from becoming competitive. It’s now a closed shop almost, will be interesting to see if any of this seasons promoted sides can stay up next. I think Leeds may have a chance but not convinced any of the others will be able to compete.

We are tidy enough but if you go a lot you see the same patterns. Not taking our chances and conceding a lot from nothing.

I don't think the margins are that fine. We've been a long way off this season imo.

Both of those were up before the gap got as big as it is now.

That was kind of my point. The only comparison was really Forest who as I said broke the rules 3 years ago to scrape staying up with the gamble of the pts penalty they faced and probably Luton, so again not a great example.

Quite. You have to strike lucky with a few of the cheaper punts. Unfortunately we didn’t strike lucky.

It’s been a brutal learning experience. Hopefully this season will stand us in good stead and we can build and improve over time. That’s not guaranteed of course, as the gap’s so big now that it’s hard to hang on to Pl quality if you’re relegated. Staying up is by far the best option but it doesn’t look like we’ve quite got enough to do so. We’re not that far off though.

Quite enough, come on why are fans here so positive, we are miles off it and only have a remote chance to stay up due to a poor Wolves start.

Likelihood is even Wolves didn't get another point we'd still go down.

"to supplement a squad of Championship players"

I think you meant to say 'a squad of Div 1 players'

Villa only stayed up due to ref's goal line watch failing in a match. Forest must have broken FFP rules.

I suspect most people understand the journey we’ve been on and knew this season was going to be incredibly tough. Even though we’re the best of the three promoted sides, it’s still too big a jump for us. No shame in that. Everyone’s working hard to try to improve.

I’m with you in being positive about th8ngs even if we go down (of which I have no doubt that we will!) but it’s a stretch to cite Bournmouth as a club that weren’t out of the Prem for long. They hadn’t actually ever played in it before they made it a few years ago.

We really did deserve that. Wasted so many promising opportunities and poor defensively again. They could easily have scored four or five.

Where were you when we were winning every week for the last couple of years? Honestly, divs like you are the worst thing about being in the Prem. You're worse than VAR. You're more frustrating than constantly coming out with losses in tight games. You're more tedious than persistent injuries and refs giving everything to the established Prem side. At this point, I hope we go down so you all piss off for a year.
