Our last three relegations are almost 12:31 - Apr 19 with 4648 viewsFromReuserWithLove

Symbolised by absolute horror shows in the goalkeeping department.

Sereni
Bombing of Bart
Muric

Goalkeeper is a very important position isn't it.

I said after half a dozen games, if there's one player to single handedly get us relegated, it's Muric. Should have been replaced much sooner. A poor keeper totally undermines the defence.

Leeds this season is a good example. They should be 10+ points clear.

My main memory will be less the horror shows and more the relentless bombardment; our goalies have been under siege this season like I've never seen before following Town. Muric giving way under siege will be a memory also though lol, some of those moments are hard to forget.

Yes but it couldn't have happened sooner because injury to Walton. Would you have chucked Slicker into the Premier League?

Muric suddenly appearing as right back against Bournemouth when we were trying to see out a 1-0 win at home is very clear in my memory.

Sereni was not a poor keeper.

For every keeper error there has been at least two defensive errors. I’m not saying that Muric is blameless but most of our defenders have been as culpable as him - if not more.

Ah. Another Muric bashing thread.
Made mistakes for sure but lest we forget we voted him man of the match for the games away to Brighton and Forrest.
Must've done something right at some point, but yes, let's blame him for our relegation.
FWIW I actually prefer Palmer, but his record is little better than Muric's but seems to be enjoying somewhat of a free hit since his arrival.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Marshall was though, and Sereni asking not to play forced that on us.

If only Mart Poom had joined that summer.

He's made some glaring errors (due to poor decisions rather than poor goalkeeping per se) but to infer one player single handedly gets us relegated is ridiculous.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Muric has turned out to be a very expensive mistake but our inability to survive this year runs far far deeper than him.

Whilst I'm full agreement with this, we'd be a lot closer to Wolves in terms of points if we'd replaced Muric considerably sooner this season. He may yet still come good after some time out of the firing line and some quality coaching.

He was appallingly treated by Hirst and had his confidence completely destroyed during the Season of Improved Football, Free Beer and Good Pressers.

How very unoriginal, the chap has only played twice for us in 2025 yet still gets singled out, ignoring the fact that 57% of our points have come with him in the side, and 67% of our clean sheets.

He was not perfect but was unfairly singled out for his errors - goalkeepers make an easy target for people looking for scapegoats I guess.

I agree the GK is important, but I doubt Zoff, Buffon or Peter Schmeichel would have been good enough to save this team from relegation.

The Brentford game killed me.

For me, after that, our belief disappeared.

Him losing his head and rushing out 1-0 against Bournemouth in the 88th minute was when I was at my most angry. He’d already cost us and it was December at this point.

Disagree. He's 26 not 16 and has never been a regular at any one of the SEVEN clubs before us. Lamouchi at Forest binned him back to City after just FOUR games and some spectacular kamikaze moves. That's how bad he was and from his c0ck-ups this season I don't think there has been much of an improvement in his footballing IQ over the past few years. Look at the body language and facial expression of our defenders when Muric was in goal vs. now.

Technique can be worked on, but not his brain. It beggars belief McK stuck with him for so long, but also perhaps due to Walton's injury.

Great. Another post slagging off Muric, who isn't even currently playing, that adds absolutely nothing to the previous 200 posts. Well Done.

Muric or whoever has been in goal, are not the reason we've been relegated.

Not really. Especially if the midfield and defence are making a habit of letting the opposition get shots away.

He was absolutely the reason we lost crucial points when we were very much in touch though. Some very good performances were wasted. If a striker missed penalties in the last minute time after time no one would let them off the hook.

I don't think I "let him off the hook" did I?

At the end of the day, we haven't been good enough collectively, including the GK department, our midfield hasn't controlled the ball well enough regularly enough, defensively we haven't been good enough (that pre-dates this season) and in attack we haven't created or scored enough.

But some want to hang the whole lot on Muric, he's been really poor, but its not all on him.

This is a thread about goalkeepers and relegation right?

Thought I was in the right place to comment on that and you’re just assuming people don’t agree with the rest of the issues you’ve raised.

Thanks for policing this though.

That decision of Burley’s looks terrible in hindsight.

Nowadays every team swaps their goalie for the cup games. Sereni’s request to sit one out because he was fatigued should have been applauded for honesty, rather than led to a permanent shift to a considerably poorer player in Marshall
