Rather than spunk £150 million 16:06 - Apr 20 with 3168 viewswarky_1970

We should have spent half that and stuck with what we had. We would be in no worse position.

Pointless season and a waste of promotion.

A lot of the problems I see on this board are people who are too sentimental to some of the players who have been here for some time and cannot see their faults. The likes of Davis, Morsy and Burgess for instance are scared cows to some here because of sentiment.

I'm not saying that all of the new signings are upgrades, but what got us to the Premier League won't necessarily have got us any higher up than the new batch of players that came in and the big problem is the gap, in combination with FFP, makes it really hard to compete for any promoted sides.

Everyone on this board rightly says that there is a huge gap between Championship and the Premier League, but then argue we'd be better off sticking with players we had, the later argument has no logic when paired with the big gap we know there is.

Yes. Obviously. Would have been much better we to have been relegated with a poorer record than Southampton and gone down with money in the bank but a poorer squad.

Makes perfect sense.

This board has been awesome since the new year.

If you're going to improve you need to it with players of the required standard. You don't have to spunk money either - Delap aside, our best signing have been a loanee and a free transfer.

You're right in the need to develop the squad. But we spent badly.

Funny how you only recently came back. Not a peep from Warkers in our recent successful seasons and now you’re back with your drooling slobbering nonsense. Weird.

Blinded by nostalgia, those not playing are always elevated when results are poor. I’ve questioned some of the recruitment and feel we need to have a different approach when/if we return.

However, the squad has clearly been built for the long term with PL money, younger players and long term deals. Let’s see how things look at Christmas

You absolute DIV !

That’s the point. It would not have made any difference just as spunking £150m on players no better than what we already had has made any difference.

You don't think Clarke and Philogene are upgrades on Harness and Jackson? Might be time to stop drinking, mate.

They clearly are but not at the standard required. Hopefully they'll pick up where they left off in the second tier next season, but it's like we've built a squad to compete at a lower level than where we are, which has led us to be cut adrift.

Buying top Championship players who are in their early 20s and have room to improve isn't a bad strategy for a newly promoted side.

Pretty sure if we had spent £50m you and other whiners would be accusing the club of not investing and wasting promotion. Seems many people have a real lack of realism about the gulf in standard between the Premier League and Championship.

That opinion is emotion ruling over realism. We'd likely have done worse than Southampton with that approach.

Agreed, especially one thats just won back to back promotions.

Pretty difficult to recruit a PL ready squad for 130m.

I'm there every game. I support them for the 90+ of each game Town is probably my biggest hobby. Maybe I have sympathy - yes, arguably misguided - towards those who got us up and have been cast aside for new players who have made little to no impact, and that is clouding my judgement.
