Hirst is the one because of the creativity around him. If he stays fit, I can see him getting 25+ next season.

Philogene and or Hutchinson. If we can keep both I’d be delighted, they’re far too good for that level and in our system I think they would be a real handful. I’m expecting interest in Omari though.

Others I would shout out are Burns & Chaplin. Maybe a bit sentimental but they’ve had nothing seasons for 1 reason or another, but I’d love to see them combining again and back to their best.

I probably wouldn't name any of those four...which is a good sign isn't it?! Maybe Clarke.

Cajuste if we sign him that's about it. Maybe broadhead if we keep him.

Szmodics, Hutchinson, Philogene, Chaplin, Burns.

Maybe a few new "premiership ready" players would be nice.

Curve ball but I’d like to see some Boniface next season

What I’ve seen of him in the U21’s he looks a proper talent

Jack Taylor is a strange one because it is difficult to know what his best position is, if he is of sufficient quality to play that position, or even it that is a position that McKenna would want in our formation.

In some way, he reminds me of Steve McCall in the sense of being versatile, and being a bit of a Jack of all trades but master of none.

Admittedly, he has come on a lot this season, but I rather sense that is because he adds a bit of athleticism that few on the bench offer.

Of course, maybe I'm being totally unfair, and McKenna will turn him into a key starting player, but I rather fear he is destined to be a squad player.

I’m pessimistic about Philogene, given his injury.

An injury of that type (presumably) hampers his pre-season at best, or wipes it out completely at worst? I don’t think there’s been a proper update(?), but McKenna seemed pretty certain he was out for the rest of the season, which isn’t a great sign.

Great analogy there with Steve McCall who always gave everything, in every position he was shoved into.

Yeah, given the PL minutes he’s had off the bench, I’m hopeful a guy of his application can convert that to Championship starts.

I’m optimistic that there’s more to it than “he runs around a lot”, but that does seem to be a fairly large part of what makes him a good sub as you say.

I'm interested what happens with Taylor next season. I believe he's out of contract in 2026 so could be make or break in terms of his Ipswich career. I think he was signed to be a box-to-box midfielder and I feel like that might be something McKenna would like having signed Camara the season before (which obviously didn't work out). Taylor couldn't force his way past Luongo in the Champ promotion season and then we've needed to be a bit more conservative in the Prem but maybe we could see a slight change in style in midfield next year.

I wonder how he would work in the Enciso role, or even further forward and convert into a striker (with more practice for accuracy).

I think all three of those who were with us this year have made really good strides in the last couple of months and started getting used to being Premier League players - all will do well next year.

Jack Clarke - is great with the ball at his feet, people underestimate how good he is at picking the right pass, looks to have a good finish on him too as well as the ability to assist. Think he'll be a major contributor in the Championship where I expect we'll be attacking more.

Really hope we can keep Hutchinson too as I think those two will cause problems for everyone we face.

One thing I will say for Taylor is that he seems to have more composure on the ball this season.

Last season, he was sometimes a bit of a headless chicken.

Hirst is an excellent footballer.

Anybody know how much we actually paid for him? Whatever it was, I'm sure it was a snip. (I remember initially reading something like £1/1.5 million but that just seems ridiculously low)

I think Philogene could be the best of the lot next season if he recovers well and in time for pre-season. He was superb for Hull and has gained a lot of experience since then (despite what some fans think). Look forward to Clarke as well. Proven at champ but has had to adapt to a slightly different role for us. If Davis goes it would free him up a bit potentially as the main man (not forgetting Broadhead is class at Champ level as well).

Ogbene will be a class act at Champ Level and ditto Sammie.

Writing this you realize our attacking options are class. Hutchinson, Chaplin, Burns etc not even mentioned.

CM is the critical element for us next season. I'm not sure Jack Taylor will get anymore game time then last time out in the champ. I like him but he's not a complete package and we need dominant players in CM and not really needing such attacking CM. Win the ball/comfortable with ball and taking back to goal etc.

Bonniface is the stand out player in the reserves but there are a few promising ones in there, is Mendel-Idowu likely to come through, he's apparently fast but selfish, not that that has stopped other first teamers this season?

Clarke and Hutchinson. I think they'll be our two main attacking outlets. Clarke has improved, as much I criticised him early in the season. He's just far too lightweight for this league currently.

In terms of general attacking options:
RW: Burns, Ogbene, Hutchinson*
CAM: Hutchinson*, Chaplin, Szmodics*, Broadhead*, Humphreys (doubt he'll get loads of minutes)
LW: Clarke, Broadhead*, Philogene, Szmodics*

Is that too many? Have I missed anyone?

*Players able to play different positions.

I think some people could be very disappointed. Lots of people thinking Humphreys is going to be a key part of the squad. I could see us selling him.

For me:

Hirst
Szmodics
Clarke
Burns

Truly impaired.

Clarke for me too. He should have a point to prove after a bit of a meh season (not all his fault). If (and it’s a huge if) we can keep Hutch, him and Clarke should terrorise Championship defenders. The only problem with Clarke is Leif. There’s not really room for the two of them to play their best game. Clarke hugging the touchline ahead of Townsend could be a very tasty option though.

Agree with this. He has come on leaps and bounds in the last two years especially (not to say he wasn't already superb).
