What’s people’s views and opinions on women commenting on the male game.

Personally I prefer male pundits and commentators for the men’s game but also understand that not everyone has the same opinion as me.

I’m not sexist it’s just my preference. I don’t like female presenters in formula one either.

I’m with you on this one. Some of them are just plain awful. But then again so are the likes of Danny Murphy, he is a prize bell end!

That’s the definition of misogyny.

For me the best person for the job should be presenting, regardless of their sex.

She is plainly correct. If Ian Wright does all the women's matches, there is less space for female pundits in that side of the game. Doesnt mean its intentional or malicious and she doesnt say so.

It literally is not the definition of misogyny.

She is not plainly correct. That’s just your opinion.

You could argue that Wright’s championing of the women’s game has accelerated opportunities for women in football media roles generally.

She has subsequently apologised to him for her comments, although he refused to accept the apology which I though a little ungracious, much as I love the bloke.

One of the tests is :

Belief in male superiority: Misogyny often includes the idea that men are inherently better than women

Pretty much what this is.

She is very much not plainly correct. Wright has only been a pundit for one WSL game in the history of the competition, so she was talking nonsense. Which is why she had to apologise, and possibly why (and understandably given he has done more for the women's game than probably any other male pundit) he has rejected her apology.

No its plainly correct. If Ian Wright is doign a job, that is a slot unavailable for women pundits in women's games where he is doing it. He does lots of them.

She did nto accuse him of any malice. Didnt really warrant an apology tbh.

No - just expressed a personal preference in a particular situation. Arguably justifiable on an experience basis as well given differences in mens and womens football.

He frequently does womens games. Almost a permanent fixture on theh internationals. Which is presumably her point.

I disagree, I believe he has helped support more women into the industry than would have been the case without his presence in the women’s game.

According to The Independent, Wright has covered 11 Lionesses games in the past two seasons. He is not 'a permanent fixture on the internationals'. And one WSL game in the history of the competition.

Aluko said something silly towards a very unfair target, and has rightly had to apologise for it.

That is a generalised statement for all women doing the jobs. You can choose to ignore the misogynistic nature of such a statement if you wish, but I fully stand behind my initial comment. My father was the same (may he rest in peace), but I considered his dated attitudes as equally misogonistic.

Ive always thought, and they used to do this with the red button, there should be a simple ambient stadium noise only no commentary option, so that then you dont have to listen to any commentators.

because actually nearly all of them are terrible thesedays, there isnt a single football commentator I hear and think fantastic theyll be a pleasure to listen to whilst watching this game for 90mins anymore.

She used to have a column in The Guardian and it was pretty awful, in the end they had to stop taking comments under her stuff because even the Guardian readers were calling her out.

Why on earth would you go after one of the nicest people in football? Of all the people to take a pop at.

I’m perfectly happy to have women commentating on men’s football if they know their stuff and some do and are very good indeed.

What I hate are the dolly bird presenters appearing in the men’s game with a script and little or no football knowledge. Or if they have a little football experience it’s of the women’s game of two or three years ago when it was a very second rate product. Why they get forced on us when we have plenty of men available with much more appropriate experience and knowledge i do not know!

Let me get this straight. Is Aluko saying that it's ok for female pundits on men's games, but not male pundits for women's games?
2
Ian Wright/Eni Aluko beef on 22:14 - Apr 26 with 2596 viewsHugoagogo_Reborn

As a woman, I like how Ian Wright has supported and championed the women's game. Therefore, he is welcome in the commentary. Eni Aluko is far from the best female pundit/commentator out there, so she would be wise to wind it in a bit, or she will be fair game. The likes of Sue Smith and Ellen White can sit on any panel, men's or women's, as far as I'm concerned, as they are considered and insightful. In contrast, the likes of Danny Murphy and Andy Townsend can do one.

Pick on merit,.not on gender/race.

Murphy and Townsend are fine.

Ellen White seems OK, I've not seen much of Sue Smith.

One observation is that men who haven't played in the Premier League seemingly don't get to be pundits on it, while women who haven't played at that level do get the opportunity.
