True, but there was nothing in this. Very close two games.

Unlike last year when Leeds bummed Norwich into the next season.

Generally I thought Frank was a terrible manager but having seen the turnaround at Coventry he's clearly got a bit about him.
Coventry came from behind in the tie and were by far the better team tonight. They were undone in the last minute from a set piece. Bottling it is extremely harsh.

No, they didn’t bottle it. They just ran out of steam in the last ten mins and Sunderland took their chance.

Coventry’s came and went in the last seconds of extra time when lead boots Wright should at least have got his header on target.

How come when a team loses an important match now it’s because they bottled it? Can a team no longer be outclassed or unlucky or simply defended badly?

I think he has probably been a bit unlucky where he has ended up, I know Mick Mills was keen on him before we got McKenna

Coventry for me have one of the better squads in the Championship, I would say they have underperformed in recent seasons, since losing that final to Luton but did step up in the FA Cup obviously

What has happened to Ellis Simms?

I’m still peeved with Charlton from the 1987 season play-offs. Then again it still hurts watching Paul Power’s free kick in the ‘81 FA Cup semi. I really must learn to let go.

Because he did the same thing at Derby on a much bigger budget too.

I just think he is a very overrated manager as shown by his other roles so far. Name over talent

Yet with Derby reached the final after beating Leeds at Elland Road coming from 2-0 down on aggregate to win 4-2. Not sure it can be classed as bottling when he has taken a team from 17th to 6th in 6 months.

I don’t understand the dislike for Lampard, he has done well in the championship generally and struggled at Chelsea where far more established names have failed.

Do you agree that he's done a very good job with Coventry this season? Very unlucky last night, had the majority of possession and chances. Sunderland defended very well.

I wouldn't be over-surprised if Ellis Simms, out of favour under Lampard, becomes one of our new strikers next season if McKenna's still manager. Like Philogene, once they like a player these days, Ashton and McKenna seem happy to go back and try again don't they?

I can see Lampard getting found out next year. He's definitely done a good job but Coventry weren't playing particularly badly under Robins, it just didn't translate into wins. It seems like one of those situations where Lampard came in as a fresh voice, replacing a manager whose influence had gone a bit stale, and got them performing to their level.

Their record from crosses is great but they're a bit too one-dimensional. The way Lampard sets up the midfield is bizarre, they don't create enough centrally and are very vulnerable to counter attacks.

Forest gave the lowest possession stats in the PL and are challenging for the Champions League. Meaningless stat in my opinion. I dare say Coventry’s spend and wage bill is substantially higher than Sunderland’s young team. I think Le Bris has done a great job there.

If this site is correct, Sunderland’s wage bill is higher than Coventrys.
