Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations 15:54 - May 22 with 3452 views | thebooks | Thinking of eating out tonight. Know the regulars: Greyhound, Fountain, Swan etc. Would like to try somewhere new in or just outside the town. Don’t mind what type of food, as long as it’s good. Any recommendations? Ta!

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 21:13 - May 22 by LRB84UK | Bit late now but the Shannon at Bucklesham won't ever let you down and for a bonus point it isn't a Deben Inn! |
What's wrong with Deben Inns? They have some nice pubs.

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 22:00 - May 22 by Lord_Lucan | I have no idea. I still don't understand how or why Ed Sheeran is famous. |
That movie is a fever dream. How it got made, I've no idea. It even has the classic pitfall of actors who clearly never been to suffolk who have been asked to do a suffolk accent. They of course just talk like pirates.

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 19:33 - May 22 by stonojnr | Certainly can't claim to have visited every pub in the country or even in the Good Beer Guide, though I know people who have. I wouldn't put it in my top 20 pubs, and I like Deben Inns, like the food, like the Maybush, used to spend many Friday/Saturday nights down there in summers of years gone by, and the beer is usually fine too. It's just I think there's loads more pubs that rank higher. Even only if you judge Suffolk. |
To be fair the Fox is better than the Maybush.

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 09:20 - May 23 with 740 views | oldbeardy | The Greyhound at Pettistree is great for food. As a general pub for a few beers I reckon the Woolpack takes some beating though I agree the Maybush and Ramsholt Arms are both in fantastic locations.

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 18:48 - May 22 by Dubtractor | Tbf, I think deben inns get a lot right. Decent pub food, in well presented lovely pubs in great locations. |
Newbourne Fox is probably the best of the bunch Ufford Crown excellent for food (not a Deben Inn) [Post edited 23 May 11:12]

From my point of view, nothing. But the comments at the start were along the lines of "not another deben inn, they are all the same" and I just wanted to make the OP aware the shannon isn't in the same chain of restaurants. Hope that's ok? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 19:58 - May 22 by _clive_baker_ | I make it #1 in Suffolk, what’s yours out of interest? |
Picking the #1 is always difficult because I'd likely default to Ipswich pubs because I visit those the most and forget about some cracking pubs further afield which there plenty Like it's hard to look beyond the Fat Cat in Ipswich, but the Dove in Bury is a very good pub, the Nelson in Southwold too, though the Harbour inn is better in the summer for the garden and view. The Walnut in Stowmarket was very good but changed hands not sure what its like now.. But places like the Rumburgh Buck or Cross Keys at Redgrave win CAMRA awards, but I've never visited them.

Fat Cat is ok but it's an overrated smelly hole frequented by teachers, Scout (dib dib dib) masters and new age weirdos - IMHO Arcade is No 1

Think they’ve just taken on the FerryBoat inn in Felixstowe too, a bit chain food but they do it well and have picked great locations.

Restaurant/pub restaurant recommendations on 16:12 - May 22 by _clive_baker_ | Not sure if it meets the definition of 'just outside town' but the Maybush at Waldringfield must be in the top 20 pubs in England. |
Not a bad pub bit no way near the top 20 in England, probably not even Suffolk.

Or the Butt and Oyster - both much better locations. The you also have the Kings Head, Angel and Cherry Tree in Woodbridge. Many many more better pubs in my opinion, and many that are independent and not chains

Cherry Tree in Woodbridge used to be great, probably still is but I haven't been for a while. I had my best ever pub lunch in there.

They do have one or two who manage a passable Norfolk accent. As much of it is set in the north of Suffolk and the south of Norfolk I reckon that's acceptable. They get the Norfolk spot on with 'I'll have a bear' when asked what he wants to drink.

It's still good. Its a pub that serves food rather than many that are more like restaurants now and you need to book tables and feel you can't just hang around for a drink.
