Similar appointment I would say.
A young up and coming coach at a well established Premier League club, looking for his own step up to a managerial role. Ashton I’m sure, already has 4-5 that he’s keeping tabs on. | | | |

Agree but think he will be gone by then. I would be very happy with Rosenior personally. Very much in the McKenna mould and talks so well in interviews and always seems to have the full respect and love of players. Also he knows some of squad well and knows the club and I always get the impression has a bit of affinity there (Him and McKenna were on good terms and he wavery respectful to us in interviews). Obviously as well a good manager. He seems to be progressing year on year and done an excellent job in France (which will help with our future European adventures ;)) | |

This is a very good point.
McKenna had half a season to get everything in order (although he improved us immediately).

I was going to point out that managing a team in the Champions League would be a hell of a reward for the pitiful run of results he’s presided over in 2025, then I remembered Vincent Kompany…
With their over-inflated sense of self worth, I don’t think Spurs fans would see KM as a high profile appointment worthy of their status.

Dyche would be a hideous option and totally at odds with what KM has created in terms of ethos and approach to playing attractive football.
It’s only directionless clusterf**ks like WBA that flip between managers who want to play football and dinosaurs, who’d offer Dyche work.
They’ve gone with Mowbray (twice) DiMatteo, Corberan interspersed with the anti-football approach of Allardyce, Pulis, Megson, Ismael and the pragmatic nothingness of Roy Hodgson in the last decade or so.
I’ve never really rated David Moyes that highly, but even he sorted out Dyche’s ugly prehistoric monstrosity at Everton almost immediately. [Post edited 24 May 22:55]

Just because it worked in league one and the championship for McKenna I'm not convinced every young coach should get this job when available.

Gone are the days when you can just send your assistant coach over to eyeball a promising talent, and, if he reckons he can do a job, ask his agent if he wants to join your club…
Nooo, an unfit Kalvin Phillips who can offer you 40 mins a month, an Aston Villa reserve who didn’t fancy it 5 months earlier, a goalie who got dropped by the relegation fodder that went down a year earlier and a lanky Hull centre half who falls over if the wind is a bit brisk are what you want..

I think we’ll be after someone who’s coached at the top level because that’s predominantly what McKenna is, a coach first and a manager second. We’ve invested in youth who have been in top academies with a high ceiling and we need someone who can unlock that full potential. Barry fits that profile to me and seems like the most seamless choice in continuing what McKenna has started.
That being said, I might be completely wrong and Ashton and co might have other ideas, or Barry might not have any ambitions to become a manager and be happy being number 2 in the England set up, who knows | | | |
