I think Jens will stay on 20:37 - May 25 by jasondozzell | We have very very ambitious owners. Cajuste if we can get him is exactly the sort of signing we need if we hope to get back up and stay up. Has shown he is premier league level player. I expect if KM says 'we must get him' they will do all they can to. |
He does nothing most games apart from a few clever turns and nice touches. Goes missing for large part of games and not a ball winner. He has been part of a huge problem area on the pitch for us this season so why would we want to retain him for when we go up again.
I think Jens will stay on 06:51 - May 26 with 1141 views | Clutch | I've watched every single Ipswich game this year and do not understand what others have been watching if they say anything negative about signing Cajuste permanently. Signing him would be fantastic, especially him at the level below when he's been our best player at Premier league level.

I think Jens will stay on 02:28 - May 26 by The_Romford_Blue | Would be the best signing a championship team has made ever id argue. A proven premier league midfielder who only 5 months ago was described by the London radio doing the spurs away game as ‘Ipswich appear to have found themselves the next 100m player’. Ok he’s not quite THAT level but he’d certainly be the best player in the league in the Championship by an absolute mile |
That feels like enormous hyperbole. One goal, one assist. In the 8th percentile for progressive passes, and just the 15th percentile for passes made. Sure, he's good at playing on the half-turn and spinning his marker, but for all the style and swagger there's not a lot of genuine output. His knee issue is also a big red flag for me. He's still managing it now and would likely require serious surgery this summer. Would that rule him out for the start of the new season? Quite possibly.

I think Jens will stay on 20:57 - May 25 by Nutkins_Return | Wasn't the obligation to buy £12mil. It's not crazy money. I would imagine we could negotiate now we have haven't gone up. I think the harder thing is getting Cajuste to join. Would like to have him but would really need to make sure we 100% understand the knee issue and whether it is likely to improve. Managing him in the champ Sat/Tuesday is a big problem. Fully fit and no knee issue he'd be amazing. knee issues rarely completely go away when they have been chronic like this season. |
I thought it was 9M | | | |

I think Jens will stay on 21:06 - May 25 by SuffolkPunchFC | £10M (€12M) I’ve seen recent reports that although the obligation isn’t triggered, that we still have the option. Not sure that is accurate though. Affording the £10M shouldn’t be an issue. |
Spending a lot of our budget on a player who isn't robust enough to play 38 games doesn't make sense when we face a 46 game season.

He's a nice tidy player, but has never really dominated a game. Only got one goal. Morsy was head and shoulders above him yesterday, including the number of times he was able to turn and drive forward past people. I am not convinced he will get a prem move tbh.

Don't worry - Cajuste will have more attractive options than a season in the Championship. Napoli have won Serie A so he could be a squad player at a CL club. He's done enough here for another PL club, or a decent European club, to want him as well. Aged 25, he might want a permanent home rather than another loan.

I think Jens will stay on 10:47 - May 26 with 809 views | JakeITFC | A lovely player and would be a coup for a championship side to sign him, but I’m not convinced he’s what we need in there. Him plus a couple of other more physical types and I’d be interested, but I’m not in love with idea of him playing 30 games and Taylor having to step in when he’s injured.

Agreed. I just don't get this obsession with his signing. I'm not sure he's going to have many options higher up the pyramid which is why he may well end up here.

Yep, as said earlier, if I wake up in three months and we've signed him plus some genuine defensive conscience then all good – but just a feeling that he's not quite right for us.

1 goal and 1 assist means he's done more than enough? I suspect there isn't going to be a huge amount of interest based on a few nice turns here and there.

If we were a team that played a devout 4-3-3 system, I think I'd be more excited about him joining. I just don't think he suits the double pivot whatsoever.

Exactly this! Our 2 CMs are effectively DMs. He's not an orchestrator like Morsy and he's not defensive minded like Luongo and dare I say it, he's been a massive part of the issue of our CM being completely overrun most weeks.

You have no idea what his current physical state is - only our medical staff will know how he's progressed. He's put in a decent number of minutes in recent months, and when he's started he's been on for 80+ minutes. Given KmK's normal subs practice, that's pretty decent. Like you, I can not be absolutely sure of his injury status, but the evidence of minutes played in the last few months suggest that the physios have his knee issue under control at the very least.

Is he reliable enough to do 90 minutes Saturday Tuesday Saturday is the question? He just had to be dropped for 2-3 weeks because he couldn't manage the quick turnaround in games. So if the answer is no, why would we pay 9-10m for him?

And how many of our midfield have more? Yes, that's a sad reflection of our midfield's contribution this year, but do you not think that the rest of the team may have contributed to that? Many seem to miss what Cajuste does both on and off the ball, and his vision with crosses. But ho-hum - we all see the game differently, and have our own unconscious bias

To dumb down Cajuste's role, it's to offer positional awareness and support to Leif when he bombs forward. The number of times we've conceded down our left this season tells you all you need to know about Cajuste's ability to carry out the 'Luongo role'.

Many have lost far more through injury , so that is just cherry picking. Just take a look at minutes played in recent months. So the answer is not a clear no, and certainly not compared to many others. Only O'Shea, Morsy, Davis, Delap, Hutchinson and Greaves played more, and his minutes have been on an upward trajectory in the 2nd half of the season.

2 yellow cards all season, in a role where you ought to be doing a fair bit of niggly fouling and breaking up play, sums up my concerns. He's a lovely player to watch, but don't think he does the dirty side of the game well enough. Leicester's first goal last week was a prime example. Any other team would make the cynical foul on halfway, pick up the booking and regroup, but Cajuste allowed him to keep running.

I think Jens will stay on 13:20 - May 26 with 518 views | stonojnr | its one of those classic he's a good asset to have but I dont feel the Championship will suit his style of playing, and hes going to spend most games getting taken out unless we sign a combative midfielder to pair with him. and I think people are reading too much in to the McKenna comment post game, because if you look at our squad, well who else could you have played, Jack Taylor ? Clarke ? our midfield is pretty sparse for options. theres an element of yes we want to prepare for next season but also there was a game to win still and you dont leave all your best players on the bench just because theyre not staying.
