Oh no! Not Szmodics off now as well? 20:40 - Jun 5 with 6137 viewsJeremiahBrown

https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/sport/25218478.sammie-szmodics-linked-premier-lea

Brentford, Everton, Bournemouth, West ham and Wolves interested and he is keen to be in the Premier league.

'The Tractor Boys value the player at between £10-15million and are willing to cash in if the price is right. However, even though the 29-year-old’s contract doesn’t expire until June 2028, it is understood a release clause would allow him to leave if Ipswich’s transfer fee is met.'

Get used to it, as there’ll be loads of these links all summer. Which of them will come to anything we’ll just have to wait and see. All the players we signed last season are obviously going to be in other club’s thoughts too. Us getting relegated doesn’t change that.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Did he really do anything last season to drum up this interest ? I don't think so,especially at what we would want for him

Isn't that how all transfer fees work?

I doubt last season will come into it much. He missed most of it through injury and clubs will be expecting him to recover. There’ll be interest based on the trajectory of his career, which is exactly why we were interested. Although this particular link could still be rubbish of course; there’ll be a lot of that this summer too!

Weird link tbh, might be an agent sniffing out any potential?

Hope our fans don't wet their panties everytime one of our players/manager is mentioned or this is going to be a long window.

I hope not. He's going to be a goal machine next season.

Trouble is, once we’ve paid Blackburn their 120% sell on clause and sent x300 footballs to Peterborough, it’s going to be another one we’ve let go at a loss.

I’m sure our resident expert, Blueas, will be along shortly to wildly misunderstand the exact figures, but this could well be another case of having our speedos pulled down and being far from ‘well protected’

Poll: September 2025. Which one?

The SportsBoom site that is the source for that article looks like a Football League World churnalism type website.

I think it was stuart watson who said links with loads of clubs mentioned tend to come from agents. Whereas links with a single club tend to be based on something real.

Poll: Which would you accept?

I find it hard to believe 5 established premier league clubs want Szmodics.

I'd hate to lose him, but can't say I'd blame him if he did go. He was another one do often benched by McKenna.

It’s a weird link in the sense that it’s obviously syndicated, with little to show it’s a Colchester paper writing about Colchester’s favourite son. On the other hand, the Gazette doesn’t usually publish made-up stuff, football-wise. They don’t usually deal in complete speculation.

Szmodics who’s been out injured most of the season, who no one else tried to sign the season before, when he was fit? .. that szmodics?

Wouldn't be against this.

Older player, limited resale value and plays in a position were well accounted for.

I was emailed that story this morning by Sportsboom, which I think is just a betting company looking to raise its profile via stories like that one. I doubt there's anything behind it.

Weird way to look at the recent top scorer in the entire Championship for a struggling team at the time. He is perfect for getting us back, whether he would be big part of the plans again a level up I don't know but could be crucial next year.

I can't believe we've given Sammie a release clause too. We were bidding against ourselves for his signature last summer after all.

smacks of an agent trying to rise interest in Sammy for their own personal gain.

Link from a completely uncredited, unheard of source.

Still at least it’s not another Delap thread, keep it coming!

In hindsight, yes he did didn't he. Didn't he have a bad ankle injury from that Fulham away game? If so, it's potentially a tricky one for the club. Is he going to make a full recovery from that injury ( this coming season will tell), or is this ankle injury severe enough to prevent him ever achieving full recovery, and might Town decide to cash in whilst his stock is still high?

If he wants to go let him go - especially if we can recover our money plus a little pot of tea on top. He’s proved he can be effective at PL level..

He’s a good player mind - too good for the Championship, but he’s not a good player if he’s going to polish the treatment table with his rear end.

I suspect it’s media rubbish and Sammy will stay. Hope so.

I think this is fine to be honest if the fee is £15 odd million. If he stays great, I'm sure he'll score a hatful... but the obvious place for him in our system is left attacking midfielder and with younger, expensive options there in Clarke and Philogene. Broadhead is still around as it stands too so making a nice little profit on Szmodics isn't the end of the world. It just has to make sense with any other outgoings (for example, if Hutchinson is leaving he may be able to play more centrally and we don't want too much turnover of players.

Do you expect someone to have his medical history? I'm sure he will be fine.

In the space of a few messages you went from blaming McKenna if he does leave for benching him which was nonsense (in response to a nonsense rumour anyway) to instantly remembering he was injured and then speculating about whether he will ever recover.

This is about as reactionary as it gets in a transfer window. You are going to have a wild summer transfer window emotionally.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?
