Im sure the really early days on here we didn't have accounts as such and we could just post anything and it was a bit of a novelty. |
I think it was that way for ten years or so but a combination of message boards, forums and social media becoming more widespread bringing about a more pervasive culture and the development of better conduct on here with a realisation that some of the personal clashes had a bit of psychological damage attached has seen this forum become more sociable - perhaps in contrast to the bitterness elsewhere. |  |

One of the problems is inherently that no individual poster can ever see everything that goes on, so those not on the receiving end of persistent unwarranted abuse from certaion individuals over years - decades even - can have a very one-sided view of some posters that's misguided, but it isn't their fault for getting that picture. |  |

Posters who get disappeared tend not to be blameless. I can think of a few who have been banned who were probably given multiple warnings but didn’t heed them. And for clarity, those posters come from both left and right of the political spectrum.
The arguments might well put people off from joining in but that’s down to them.
TWTD is a great community and in communities you sometimes get bickering. Just don’t take this place too seriously and everything will be fine. |

I've posted some 'out there' or minority opinions and got robust feedback before. I've also given my own. So what? Never see the need to get personal. Up and down arrows are just a shorthand way to signal agreement and disagreement. I don't understand why anyone would let this stuff ruin their day.
