Like most of us, I'm sure, I've been taught from childhood to give people the benefit of the doubt, and then in education and training to remain open-minded to new evidence and new theories and to think in terms of probability rather than certainty and thus to listen to even the most wacky of ideas without immediately dismissing them.
It's hard to maintain that ethos in our post-truth world though - you just open yourself up to get cynically taken for a ride by shameless deceivers and manipulators. Politically, scientifically, socially, commercially, family members who've gone down the rabbit hole - it's just so futile and crippling to start from an assumption of any kind of integrity. |  |

I didn’t believe that link when I read it, but it’s true. Unbelievable and while I get that a 21st century perspective on this is not the way to view it, I don’t think what is described would have been acceptable to most early 20c or 19c eyes.

One bloke intimated that that in the Mexicans etc, there were 60m potential meals for the alligators. It’s sort of classifying and degrading people in ways the Nazis would recognise. It utterly disgusts me. As does MAGA Trump and his version of America. There’s a throwback evil to it that this country should distance itself from.

In fact before anyone gets all moist over Abraham Lincoln, his views changed over time, but he never believed freed slaves should have equal rights. Aliens that should be sent back was nearer the mark.

I did double check that it was genuine, as you’re right that it seems unbelievable. I don’t know how this is being covered in the US press, but it should be on the front page of any responsible outlet. They’re not discriminately exterminating aliens (as far as we know), but they are using imagery and language that mirrors that used by genocidal regimes through history.
Quite how they’ve got to this point with seemingly little outrage is quite an eye-opener. You’d think this would transcend tribal political boundaries and horrify everyone. But seemingly not. | |
