Because we’re not allowed to worry… 11:36 - Jul 7 with 8167 viewsSitfcB

…when should we start worrying about no new signings?

Off to Austria next week, surely we should have one or two in by then at least.

Season starts in 32 days and we’re now 7 days into the ‘new financial year’ which some were using as an excuse.

Worry is a very subjective thing. You can worry when you want, worry now by all means.

I should’ve added ‘not allowed to moan’ about lack of signings either.

Invariably though - worrying doesn't change anything.

It's normal to worry but very unhealthy to chronically or excessively worry.

It would be good to get a couple in before Austria and you'd have to think that is the plan. Other teams in the division are strengthening very well and I think we are in for a bumpier ride than some expect.

Totally agree. This ‘squad’ still needs quite a bit of working doing to it.

Still, if Ashton says jump, we’re all meant to say ‘how high?’.

Not actually true.

One of the best plasters I know was available at short notice to do a job for me due to delays on existing projects.

End of this month I would say. Once the big clubs are back and pre-season tours are coming to an end.

Phil has said the emphasis is on the domestic market once again and therefore we are going to need to wait for them.

I see no point in worrying though. We need max 6 new players or 1 new starter so real Pl or potential PL quality has to be the most important thing. If that means we have to wait until the end of the window then so be it.

Does worrying about it make any difference? Can you change things by worrying and/or moaning?

If not, then don't worry about it as you can't influence it.

Apart from another CM our starting 11 is probably really good.

But it’s the depth again that’s currently a problem.

Going into the season with Hirst the starter and Ali the sub isn’t good enough.

On the other hand you can say not a lot of squad disruption is a good thing. Birmingham for example may take a bit of time to settle/gel.

i would hope that ashton is working on it!

quality over quantity is needed though, and i'd rather wait for the right one rather than fill the squad in a panic

I've never understood the Ashton doubting. He has never once given you any reason to doubt him, particularly at this level.

He's the best leader the club has had for a very long time so yes we all should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Hard to say.

We need to be starting the season having made 2 signings. A Striker and a centre midfielder. We need a couple more additions on top of that, but it is crucial that we have those 2 bodies in for the game at Brum.

Worry away, no-one said you can't, just a waste of energy to do so over something reasonably unimportant in the global scheme of things that you have no control over.

I think like many issues on here it's become a bit binary but there's a mid-point for me. I'd like some upgrades in as soon as possible but can understand why that might take longer - if we're targeting players who we think will be able to step up to the Prem then there's likely to be additional interest and/or the player will be seeing what other options there are.

At this stage I'd still rather we took our time and got someone who was an 8 or 9 out of 10 for what we want (ability, potential, team fit, sell-on value, etc) than go for an easy to get 6 or 7 out of 10 now. There probably does come a point where we just need to make things happen fast but I don't think we've reached that yet.

If there were more rumours floating around I think there'd be less worry in general as people could see the sorts of targets we're aiming at.

You can moan now! A fair few are way ahead of you on that though. I think I'd hope we'd have a couple in before we head off to Austria, that'll be an important time for the squad to start bedding in so ideally we'd have a couple in by then. We aren't in bad shape though so I'm not worrying yet, probably won't worry unless we have no signings by late August and no points on the board.

If we are a 2/3 days in to the trip to Austria and we don't have 1 or 2 exciting signings in then I would start to be concerned.

I think getting at least one central midfielder in soon is imperative, we either need two or three depending on McK's view on Taylor and/or Humphries.

That and a striker and I think we could feel a bit more relaxed, accepting some gaps will only get filled late in the window.
