Look, no-one here wants to defend Hamas - and I'm not quite sure how they are still able to 'negotiate' with Israel, considering that the IDF have apparently almost completely obliterated them - but they are clearly linking a return of all hostages to not just a ceasefire, but a complete end to the 'war' in Gaza and withdrawl of all Israeli soldiers.

Even as someone who generally sits on the Israel side of the fence, I am appalled at this. Humanitarian aid needs to be allowed in. Israel aren't doing their cause any favours by letting people starve. |
Yep. And that can be the only response (for anyone with an ounce of human decency). Many actual Israelis are appalled by it too. There are only about 20% of Israelis who want to continue this ‘war’ (genocide). [Post edited 24 Jul 12:05]

I’ve no idea what point you’re trying to make. Hamas are an officially proscribed terrorist organisation that have repeatedly breached international law. We know that. Nobody is suggesting they’re the good guys.
Call the conflict whatever you want (war, conflict, doesn’t matter). The point of the thread was that Israel have withheld aid in a deliberate attempt to starving out Palestinian civilians; as clear a breach of international law as you’ll find. Multiple international organisations have indicated that it’s their view Israel is carrying out genocide against the Palestinian people, whilst the UK still provides assistance towards the Israeli military operations. It’s undeniable what’s going on and we have a moral duty to speak out against it. | |

I must say, I find that line of reasoning weird.
I've never seen anyone jump in when people say "F#ck Russia" over the war in Ukraine to say that it's the Russian Government and not the Russian people who are doing this.

Anyway, an update. Apparently Israel are now happier with Hamas’ demands and there’s an expectation an agreement could be reached that would see the return of hostages and a lot more much needed aid int Gaza. | |
