Topic Jens Cajuste in Arabia.

Napoli and Neom continue to negotiate for the midfielder: in the last few hours, a new offer for a paid loan (€2.5m) with an option to buy for €7m.

Aurelio De Laurentiis is requesting an obligation to buy.

Heard a whisper that a Saudi club was interested earlier but didn't know which one and how far it might have gone. Sounds like that has a chance of happening. Besiktas and Burnley were still in the mix, though.

Has any club not been on the brink of signing Cajuste this Summer?!

What a hideous fall from grace that is!

To go from the PL to playing for a project team to promote that desert city in Saudi feels... out there. It also suggests to me that (serious) clubs aren't prepared to take a risk on his fitness.

Last week he'd told some of his ex Town teammates that he was off to Burnley, so something's gone on there.

Real shame if he ends up in Saudi. Surely the Championship would be a better bet for him?

Surely we could compete with that. So he just doesn't want to play in The Championship?

The fees are cheap as chips for his quality. I'm really surprised by all this as presumably we would have been happy to pay that and more and we seem a much better option then that!!! Jens didn't strike me as these sort to chase the cash.

I do wonder if he just can't get through a medical.

It has a feeling of the highest bidder wins - on wages.

Doubt we’re matching Saudi wages… I love Jens, but wouldn’t want us to with his injury history.

Neom is a funny old place the city the club belongs too doesnt even exsist, that line they are supposed to be building is Neom, right now they play about 150 miles away from where the city is supposed to be strange place for me.

Fitness may well have been a sticking point with some clubs. Not sure Burnley is off the table yet though, may well be that Saudi is another option being looked at before a decision is made.

I don't think he sees the Championship as a step he wants to take, a downward step at this point. However, the same could be said for Saudi and Turkey, but I assume the money on offer there is big, even if, from what I hear, Town were willing to pay significant wages.

If fitness is an issue with Cajuste.... why are so many so keen to get him? It's OK to fail a fitness test at another club, so we can sneak in and get a crocked player.
Don't get it. 1 goal, 1 assist, a partner to Morsy in a midfield which was overrun most weeks ( but Morsy gets the blame), can only play 60 minutes .... but he looks pretty on the ball.
The Championship would have been too tough for him.

That’s just not how his minutes played went last season, although many people repeat it.

Second half of the season, after we managed him through his injury, he regularly played well beyond 60 minutes and the full 90 on several occasions. In fact his total minutes played for the season was way up the list.

Stats have been posted a couple of times to correct this misconception. We did an excellent job of getting him fit.

He is 25 and has played in the premiership and serie A, we are probably offering ar least £25k a week pretty sure he is set already.

Just seems bizarre, I could very much accept premier offers, desire play in World Cup but Neom FC seriously

If the Hayden Hackney deal goes through, we don't need him; certainly not this season in the Championship at least. Matusiwa will be the more static defensive/holding midfielder in the double pivot, while Hackney will have more licence to push forward, taking on opponents when opportunities present; the Luongo to Matusiwa's Morsy so to speak.
Jack Taylor, & potentially Cameron Humphreys, can fill that role from the bench, to varying degrees at Championship level, when called upon, but what we will still desperately need, is a solid backup for Matusiwa, should he pick up an injury, or suspension. This is why Morsy is such a loss, notwithstanding the fact that he, understandably, was not keen on playing a bit part in the team this season.

It’ll all be about money. He’d only get £25k per week here. You can’t expect anyone to survive on £1.3M per year. That’s practically slavery.

To be fair to Jens (and other players), if he is injury prone already, he has no idea whether his body will hold up enough for him to play into his early 30's or not. ie. This could be his last pay packet for all he knows.... so it is understandable that players do try and 'make hay whilst the sun is shining' .....

He had a habit of disappearing when the going got tough too - in other words after 20 mins. A goal (nice but a consolation in another beating) and one assist I don’t remember. That was it.

Ran nicely with the ball and looked dead exciting when he did, but there was no end product and it didn’t happen often. Mostly it was watching the opposition roll on by and the odd scuffle - before watching the opposition roll on by. Muhren or Thijssen he wasn’t. He along with friendly ghost Phillips and Sam were way short of Premier League standard and collective midfield, or lack of it, was a major reason why we collapsed.

As a Championship player, Cajuste might have been able to do something as the game is slower, but it is still very physical and 46 games is a lot for a player whose fitness has to be managed. I too think it’d have been too tough for him. I don’t think he offered enough to pay that amount of money to, given the risk. It looks like Burnley and one or two others don’t think so either.

At 25 he’s not going to improve. His club record suggests he’s been a bit of a journeyman to date and it looks like he might take the money out in the Middle East. Assuming it’s a lot of money, like Sam, I can fully understand why he might want to cash in.

If he moves to Saudi or Turkey then he can't argue he's made a decision based on anything other than money. Playing in the Championship for the title favourites is a far smaller downward step if he does genuinely want to get back to playing in a top European league. Would be really disappointing on his part.
