Omari Bashing 00:40 - Aug 3 with 2006 viewsmutters

Everyone is completely entitled to their own view on this situation but come on people cut the kid some slack. Nobody knows the reason why he hasn't travelled, and even if it is to do with the rumoured Brentford (or an other club) interest then as a person he still has the right to take a breather and work it out.

Just because he gets paid money that most only dream of, and just because we pay a large sum of money to watch him each week really doesn't give us the right to abuse him. Its funny how fickle fans can be. Lets be honest nobody knows what's going on in his life at the moment, it's all speculation.

Remember he is still a young man. He will figure it out but for fans to suddenly turn on him is a shame.

You are probably right to some degree and there will be a lot of emotion flying around with the disappointment of lack of new signings, us going all in on HH and him rejecting us and then this news it has culminated in some strong reactions.

For KMc to carefully say what he did I think KMc feels let down otherwise he really would have continued to protect Omari as that is the manager he is. Omari probably could have been advised much better. If some of the other stuff I have seen is true, I think this 'attitude' with Omari about being a PL player may have started late last season.

I think some lines have been crossed now and 'best for the club and player' means only one thing for Omari.

I make you right. KM/club could have gone with a “he’s got a minor knock we don’t want to risk” but instead going with “he’s downed tools” is a very deliberate choice.

I think the way we have put it on Omari means they are very disappointed in him.

Hardly bashing now if the club really wants to sell take the money to rebuild the squad it may be different could Hackney have spoken to Hutchinson and he told him he was off all unknowns a interesting week ahead.

Yeah, it's the exact same situation as Hackney not playing in Boro's friendly last week as he looked to be close to moving here. Nobody was criticising him for doing that.

It's just a shame for us that a few days ago, it looked like Omari might actually be staying (and I say that as someone who had been 90% sure he'd leave) and Hackney would be joining. Now neither of those things are happening.

It doesn't justify the strength of feeling against Omari, just wonder if the fact that it was the second (or third if you include Philogene's injury) in the line of bad news stories for us yesterday contributed to it.

Agree with this. Ha McKenna actually said Hutchinson has downed tools and refused to okay, no he hasn't. He may have done that or is it that the club is protecting him as a valuable asset as well. It's all speculation so can't quite see where all the anti hutch sentiment is coming from.

possibly just reflects McK's honesty about the situation and is gently telling us not to expect to see Omari again in blue. Bearing in mind it is only a friendly, Omari-bashing seems unnecessary. If there is a high chance Omari is going, it makes sense for some one else to get the gametime anyway. I don't think it is downtooling in the Isaak or Szmodics sense. He has just lost focus.

My problem with it, is Omari, with his reps, had a relegation release clause added into the contract he signed at the start of last season. Ive no issues with that. But Brentford then come along and try to buy him, but not within the release terms Omari had agreed with.
Omari's beef should be with Brentford, not refusing to play for Town

Brentford obviously still want him, but don't want to pay more than the £35m they offered previously. It's like someone who could have bought a car for £3500 2 weeks, ago but now need to pay £4000 for it. The car isn't any different, its down to the stupid individual not acting when they should have.

Even my old Brentford life long fan mate thinks Brentford are stupid. They had the chance to buy him for £35m, they obviously have the money, why fork around with payment options. As he said it will now cost them more
He agrees with me, Brentford leaking they were thinking about upping their bid was deliberately aimed at unsettling Omari in the hope he can force the deal through at £35m on their terms

Unfortunately many young men over the years have had their heads turned by the bright lights of the Premier league. Some make it , some don't.
From Towns point of view if they can get anywhere near £40 million that's great business providing we can get through the door what we need before the window closes.
Not quite sure why we seem to be having so much trouble persuading players to join us. Is it again because they think they are too good for us ? or is it because we are playing hardball with fees and wages.
Sad in a way that we now have two players in Delap and Hutchinson who both were given a chance by us, improved and virtually at the first opportunity they are away.
I understand that the loyalty situation doesn't apply either way.
I and many of my past workmates worked for a company for 25,30 and some 40 years, now there are few of the originals left and whereas it was a family thing where fathers, brothers and sisters all worked together now it's all individuals from far and wide and again no loyalty either way.
I do think loyalty and togetherness as we saw in League One and Championship promotions can create a situation where it benefits the individual and the company or club.

It wouldn't surprise me, either, if the situation is taking it's toll on Omari's mental health or ability to focus.

There's a potentially life-changing opportunity in the offing, and he's probably getting all sorts of conflicting advice from all sorts of people, some of whom won't be giving their advice because it's in Omari's best interests.

Chalk and cheese, but I was assaulted one evening a few years ago, and went into work the next day. Come mid-morning I was really struggling to focus, spoke to my boss, and we agreed that I could take the day off and as long as I needed in order to get my focus back.

Nobody accused me of downing tools, or questioned whether I was truly committed to my employer. And I'm loath to question Omari's commitment or motivations for that reason alone.

I don’t think people are abusing him. People, including myself (and I’ve caveated every post with ‘if true’ etc) are disappointed. From Phil’s article:

“Omari, with the speculation around his future at the moment, he didn’t feel mentally in the right place to come for the game,” McKenna said when asked about Hutchinson after the match.

So whichever way you read it for whatever reasons he doesn’t want to play for the club, McKenna or his team mates.

He is a professional footballer and with that comes responsibilities. A fundamental one for me is to do your best. Be professional in everything you do. He gets paid the big bucks and that is fine. That’s the market for an undoubtably talented young man.

But before we get hung up on the age thing, don’t forget there are plenty of people in the past, present and future that carried/ carry far more responsibility than a footballer at his age.

It doesn’t look right. If there is something else going on with him, then McKenna, who always chooses words carefully, wouldn’t have chosen those ones.

As I say, he has a duty to the football club that pays him, a manager who has developed his career to where it is and his team mates, whether he gives a monkeys about them or not.

Hopefully there’s more to it than I and others are reading into it. Maybe there’s nothing in it and he’s just tired after the Euros. That’s for those concerned to clarify if they wish to.

I rarely disagree with your viewpoints Mutters, but on this it’s not about people turning on him, more about what I believe are his responsibilities so ‘cutting the kid some slack’ (he’s not a kid) doesn’t come into it for me.

I'd argue as good as. McKenna lays the reason why Hutchinson wasn't with the squad yesterday solely with him. Not a joint decision, not by saying he wants to ease him back in after a long summer, not by excusing it with a small knock. McKenna's opinion is clear as are his comments, and it's as close to "downed tools" as you can get without saying it.

This is just as much about the club not wanting to risk their asset as Omari not being in the right frame of mind but the club are not going to say this so it results in Omari looking like the instigator.

So you are saying McKenna deliberately used words to heap it on Hutchinson while the club was really protecting its asset? If there’s any evidence for that, I’ll stand corrected.

The only evidence I have seen is McKenna’s actual words and that OH did not travel.

I think there would be less annoyance if he was prospectively going to a “big” club. Brentford may be in the premier league, but are in every other way a small club punching above their weight. They’ve lost their manager, captain and star striker amongst others, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they find themselves in a relegation scrap.

He was never going to stay.

The fact that he’s still here less than a week before the start of the season is just an inconvenience to our team building.

Did you miss the posts calling him a prima dona pr1ck, an average player, overrated or that he has thrown his toys out of the pram - the ultimate football fan insult?

When I read McKenna's quotes on here my first thought was he's finally definitely off, bummer. Others decided on excitable clichéd nonsense and insults so there definitely has been bashing to different degrees.

Think you getting assaulted and Hutchinson earning thousands of pounds a week and only 12 months ago signing a contract of which he fully understood the terms are slightly different. I have little sympathy for I'm afraid ,But believe the club should get as much as they can for him and invest elsewhere if they can get anyone to actually sign .

Sorry, but I think you are wrong. We can all have a very, very good guess at why he didn't travel. A few seasons back, we took a punt on him. Last season we paid a very, very high price for him as he was untested at that level. We gave him the tools and game time to advance. He should show us some respect back. I am fed up with players demands and the ease at which clubs seem to buckle.
Get him sold and get some proper professionals in.
