The club will have a price - like every club in world football has a price for their players - no matter who it is.

Sure, if we want to be pedantic about it, the Club would accept £50m, £100m, whatever. But they won’t get bids anything close to acceptable.

Davis isn’t leaving.

It's there in the tweet - every single club in the Premier League has made a bid. Or the League itself has made a bid and, if successful, will place him with whichever club they see fit. That's how it works, isn't it ?

Sort of astonished that Phil hasn't debunked this one, or that one of our regular ITK posters hasn't called the OP out.

Sorry I can't actually see the tweet on the system I am on atm, seen the story elsewhere now though.

Get the impression this is speculative, aimed at drumming up interest. Town no looking to sell, even less so since Townsend's injury. Not really any pressure to do so if there are offers, other than something viewed as astronomical.

I think people are quite harsh on him regarding his defending in the Premier League.

We were on the back foot almost every game. He was still being asked to do the same job he did in the Championship, which was fairly attacking, but he spent way more time having to try and sprint back to defend when we were countered.

And he Cajuste didn't do as good a job as Luongo did at helping down that side, stepping in to let Davis get back and recover.

He was still one of our best chance creators, and I think one of the better in the Premier League overall.

Totally agree with that.

I’d also add just look at the quality he was expected to mark whilst still trying to get forward and a non existent midfield shield in front of him

Agree! Championship he was superb but the Premier league his defensive qualities were found out. Townshend a much better defender, but sadly will not be seen for quite a while.

Fair statement.

IF - (massive if) we get an offer we can't refuse for Leif this could just be Humph's moment!

Plenty of other players have had to step up more than expected and have shone above expectations. I know we've got Young and Greaves who can play there, but I just wonder ...

If Davis was to go (don't think he will), Humphreys will absolutely not be his replacement. We'd go and get a proper left back in, it won't be a square peg in a round hole scenario.

But if that is the case Phil, the drumming up must be coming from Leif's agent, i.e. Leif himself, which in itself has to be worrying. He would know that Townsend's injury is serious, possibly season ending, and was prepared to go down this route anyway.
He would likely have been contacted (tapped up in old money) by someone from a club he would be interested in going to ... maybe?

I agree we don't want to sell him & don't have to, but it a concern nonetheless.

Didn’t see that one coming, thought he got found out last season.

He’ll be unsettled now, which only means one thing.

Good job we’re already looking at left backs!

RIP Sir Bobby

It's absolutely laughable to me that people think Townsend (pre-injury) was a serious option as a Leif replacement. He played well in a handful of games last season. He's an excellent deputy. But as our starting left back?!

No worries, I wasn't having a dig at you. It's the the tweet on the OP that looks so duff, although the front page story on this that Phil ran shortly afterwards did reference the Telegraph, how their standards have fallen.

I could see maybe a Fulham, West Ham, Everton taking a look? Guess in the next week we will have hit the 100 million sales, Delap, Omari and Leif..

Add in £7m for Broadhead less a few shillings for purchases and we will have hit the £100m in Brett Johnson’s sales prospectus. A plan coming together?

Just my nasty suspicious mind kicking in, given the club’s interest in loan signings, no Ashton, no American faces gurning ant the camera and radio silence. The club are hardly going to announce they are cashing in the assets. Of course this is unfounded suspicion but if it has any truth to it there are two immediate consequences. McKenna will be gone within a few months and we need to hope we’ll have enough for mid table.

I love baseless, negative speculation.

Agents are often a law unto themselves, a player doesn't necessarily express an interest to move on. Agent will want his player in the Premier League if he can get him there.

The conversation could easily have gone like:

"Hey Leif, I reckon a few well placed stories out there could generate you some PL interest. Howabout I throw a few crumbs out there and see if we get any bites?"

"sure Mr Agent McMoneybags, I am happy to stay but why not, I guess...?"

If there was a conversation, agent may just have been having a chat with the journalist and threw in interest in Leif. I'm speculating, of course.

Plus rumours like this aren’t always all about transfers.

The whole squad have just seem Dara and Hirst get bumper new deals off the back of such rumours. Good for Leif, good for the agent.

Just because there is interest does not mean he is leaving. He is too important to us and I see him sticking around this season and pushing for promotion with us

I think it was obvious to everyone that Leif suffered mentally with the step up to the EPL and I am not sure he would be prepared to take that step again unless say Newcastle came in for him.

Especially to a 'bigger' team where there will be more expectation on his shoulders. He's said he struggled and needed to develop further and he will do that this season with us

I don't think I could ever have imagined this season starting with no Morsy, no Hutchinson, no Broadhead, no Leif, no Luongo...Delap we all knew was coming.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for what happened to Burnley last year getting picked apart. It feels awful.

With Townsend out, the fee would have to be significant and I think Leif will completely understand the club's position at this present time, certainly not the sort who'll throw pressure at the club to let him go unless it's Newcastle (unlikely imo).

We're now going to be looking for the following;

2 x LB
1 x Striker (i've got my b*llocks crossed on Akpom joining otherwise it's 2 x)
2 x CM (i've got bum hair crossed on Cajuste otherwise it's 3 x)
1 x No10 or RW replacement for Omari.

6 new players.....jeeeezz

Just to point out we have not sold Leif or Nathan and nothing suggests that we are
