Kone - Sky sports news transfer centre 11:08 - Aug 7 with 3412 views | itfc1108 | Wycombe poised for Kone bid Latest from Sky Sports' Ron Walker: Wycombe forward Richard Kone is expected to be the subject of a bid from a promotion-chasing Championship club this week after the Chairboys dropped their asking price. A number of clubs in the EFL and abroad, including Ligue 1, have had bids knocked back for the 22-year-old, but Wycombe are now willing to let their star striker go for a guaranteed fee of around £3m plus add-ons. It is understood they were previously seeking a deal worth at least £5.5m but have softened their stance with Kone in the final year of his contract. He was left out of the Wycombe squad for Saturday’s League One opener at Bradford with Wycombe boss Mike Dodds admitting the “financially quite lucrative” bids had been behind his absence.

This is actually quite a good idea. However al hamadi has had a pre season which may suggest another loan may benefit us

If we had, then we'd have paid £2.5m over the asking price!

Cam H on loan as a sweetener. But we don't have enough cover in midfield.

Given how the rumour mill goes these days, it'd be surprising if we'd bid and no story appeared anywhere about it.

Offer him to Wycombe on loan.

Ali Al-Hamadi in the same mould, that young lower league project player - and Al Hamadi has had a strong enough pre season to suggest he can be that 3rd choice option.

Much better player than Ali.

I don't see how you can be so certain on this as he hasn't played at championship level? Ali has had a good preseason and looks ready to be one of two backups to Hirst this season and I expect this to be the case. The only scenario in which Kone comes in is AAH is sold- can see us making a profit in this case and am not against it.

I'm pretty bullish on it. I've watched loads of Kone, a player I followed really closely last season and I just think if you excuse the times Dodds was in charge at Wycombe and their whole team died, I saw a guy who I think would look more than comfortable at the top of the championship. Super mobile, intelligent in the box, great on both feet. He had serious interest from West Ham last season. I Just think he is someone who when he gets his chance at this level will just keep getting better. Ivan Toney like. I do like Ali, but think Kone looks so much of a better fit for us.

The one thing with Ali (and I actually quite like him) is that it's clear in some technical aspects and his general awareness that he didn't come through an elite acadamey, as many of the players we've signed under KM have. Is it the same with Kone? Is he any better tactically than AAH for example. Never seen him play other than youtube, but his stats are impressive - as were AAH's at Wimbledon. Ideally we don't want another "raw" forward if we already have AAH in the building and assume he'll be third choice. [Post edited 7 Aug 14:48]

Saw Kone on tv which isn’t the best way of seeing a player, but quite frankly he looked a slow, rather clumsy old unit. However, Wycombe we’re going backwards at that stage so maybe others have seen more to him.
