Roll call… Birmingham (A) 15:56 - Aug 7 with 1749 viewsSitfcB

Here we go again…

Back in our spiritual home, the best League in the world, the Championship.

Who was lucky enough to get one of the 2,003 tickets?

Driving up and back tomorrow, leaving early, 13:00ish, giving us plenty of time.

Worried about this one, always nervous for the first game but this is probably one of the worst we could’ve had, going to be some atmosphere I think, Birmingham will be up for it. Need a quick, positive start from us.

Here’s the guide from the club…

Believe the Cricketers Arms is the closest pub to the ground that allows away fans in.

I reckon a draw, 2-2 but would love a convincing win (or any sort of win)

Nope, screwed up getting tickets.

Going to Oldham v Col Who on Saturday instead to get back to 90/92 after Morecambe & Carlisle went down and Everton rather rudely moved ground.

It’ll be a lively atmosphere on Friday at St Andrews no doubt, and others said, we’ll need to have our big boy pants on to get through the initial fire and brimstone and then we can start to assert ourselves as the game goes on.

Brum have made so many signings, it’s hard to know what sort of a team they will put out…. But I’ve read on more than one occasion their fans saying they weren’t actually that good last year, but had a moment of quality / brain-fade from the opposition to win them the match.

There’s no way this was randomly generated by the fixture computer, but it gets it out of the way as Brum will be / become at least PO contenders this season.

Added to that, all West Mids grounds are hell-holes with unfriendly locals that are worth avoiding, so if I’m going to miss a game, I’m not shedding any tears it’s this one.

All that said, I’d take a point. Assuming we aren’t leading and throw one in late on!

Thought I would leave about 10ish tomorrow. Nice leisurely drive up. Plenty of time to take in the fair city of Birmingham before heading to the ground for about 7ish.
Love the first game of the season (I love them all obviously) so much anticipation for what we are about to embark on. Our the journeys we have with this great club of ours.
Love the Championship, always have. Previously would want to stay in it for ever, but guess our owners have invested for the PL. Shame really.
If we can be mid table PL then no argument, but I don't really want to be a yoyo club.
Stay in the Championship, always makes sense in the end.

Train from Ippy tomorrow. Hotel then back on Sat.

Have enjoyed the break but have felt the excitement rushing back over last few days.

Really hope we put one on them. Hate the Brady hype American nonsense!

Let's go and show them how good we are.

Yes, 3 of us. Booked half days to make a bit of an afternoon of it, should be in Brum for 3 for a bite to eat and plenty of pints as I'm not driving. Try not to get our heads kicked in, watch us win, then straight out after the game.

Home fans will be well up for it, ours need to be as well but we normally are on the road.

I'm in with the prawn sandwichers - having 'american style yorkshire pudding wraps' in the 12 lounge. Christ I hope we smash them.

Currently at Vale Park enjoying a very spirited (or should I say Valliant) effort from Port Vale!

My worst fear is a poor start and we don’t recover, especially with a backdrop of noise.

We pulled them back last time I went there, they defo create an atmosphere. That was with a half completed stand too, think they were putting in rail standing.

Lots of bluenose mates from my time living in the midlands, a far more loyal and down to earth fanbase than Villa whose fans smugly labelled themselves the "Man Utd of the midlands"
