They wonder why they get arrested? on 14:11 - Aug 11 with 649 views | marshland | I understand the strong feelings that are aroused by the terrible pictures from Gaza and even understand that this woman feels the need to demonstrate her feelings BUT how will banging a gong for 20 minutes in the face of a police officer stop Israel from its actions in Gaza? Use peaceful protest where it makes a difference and where it can bring change do not use such an awful catastrophe as an excuse for mob behaviour and unreasonable provocation that you rightly condemn when used by the right wing idiots outside immigrant hotels. PS try that protest almost anywhere outside the UK and see what happens.

They wonder why they get arrested? on 14:19 - Aug 11 with 613 views | DJR | Worth posting what I posted on the other recent thread, which didn't get any response. "A rather alarming number of apologists on this thread for what is draconian legislation. But don't take my word for it, just look at what the UN Human Rights organisation says about it, which reflects my comment about the inappropriateness of shoe-horning Palestine Action into the Terrorism Act. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/07/uk-palestine-action-ban-disturbi "UK domestic counter-terrorism legislation defines terrorist acts broadly to include ‘serious damage to property’. But, according to international standards, terrorist acts should be confined to criminal acts intended to cause death or serious injury or to the taking of hostages, for purpose of intimidating a population or to compel a government to take a certain action or not,” said Türk. “It misuses the gravity and impact of terrorism to expand it beyond those clear boundaries, to encompass further conduct that is already criminal under the law.” “The decision appears disproportionate and unnecessary. It limits the rights of many people involved with and supportive of Palestine Action who have not themselves engaged in any underlying criminal activity but rather exercised their rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association,” the High Commissioner said. “As such, it appears to constitute an impermissible restriction on those rights that is at odds with the UK’s obligations under international human rights law.” “The decision also conflates protected expression and other conduct with acts of terrorism and so could readily lead to further chilling effect on the lawful exercise of these rights by many people,” Sadly though, a lot of people in this country don't seem to care about human rights but therein lies a slippery slope where we end up mirroring Russia and Belarus as the only countries in Europe not to be members of the ECHR. And it is good that there are some very brave people prepared to take a stance on this, and sad for me that Labour with a human rights lawyer as leader is going down this route. I'm quite surprised and disappointed that the proscribing of Palestine Action hasn't met more resistance generally. Regardless of ones position on the Middle East, this decision by the government sets a very dangerous precedent that should concern people of all political persuasions. It's hugely regressive, and like most things this government does, seems designed to impress a section of the electorate that would never vote Labour in a million years no matter what they did.

To be honest, anyone who has lived with children under 10 years of age should be able to block that noise out . . . it becomes a practised art.

It's also particularly odd that those on the right, who are supposed to be supporters of freedom, appear to have no issues with it.

I'd imagine those inanimate objects they terrorized have been scarred for life. Whilst they're at it, should the government classify all crime as terrorism, just to be safe?

if one of us sprayed "itfc" on a plane, should a) the sprayer be arrested and charged with damaging military property b) itfc should be proscribed as a terrorist organisation ?

....criminal damage and aggravated burglary incident that saw two "civilians" and two police officers seriously assaulted also seem to have been forgotten as well. It's just a load of pots, pans and spray paint though.

It's almost like Blueas doesn't really care about the protests and is just on the wind up. Who'd have thought?!

Whilst not commenting on an ongoing live legal case, more generally, people who attack military planes should be arrested for Treason, in my view. Treason encompasses "acts giving comfort" to the nation's "enemies". Up to the Judge to decide how to sentence, if found guilty, but that is the offence which most clearly fits the crime. It's not terrorism, because the act didn't intend to induce terror or panic in the general population, and it's not X hundred thousand pounds worth of Criminal Damage, because assets vital to National Security could be impacted and put out of service. The cash value of physical damage is less important than the depletion of military capability.

You mean at other peaceful protests by the FLA for example? We're talking about an old lady being annoying with some kitchen utensils vs some coked up morons 'avin it large with the Police. We need to apply some equivalency here don't we? [Post edited 11 Aug 15:47]

Whatever your views on Palestine Action, it's quite a leap to categorise any of the accusations you list as acts of terrorism.
