I’m slightly surprised that not more is being made of what he’s doing. I know it’s over there and all that, but there are impacts on us. The tariffs are having an impact. He’s had Brits held in detention for considerable time, just for minor visa breaches. He’s banned Brits from travelling who have had no issue in the past. So although those are mild compared to the vile slip into authoritarianism, there is a UK link. And I’d have thought that slip into authoritarianism and the general attack on democracy would be sufficient alone for lots of column inches here in the UK.

Trump is a deranged quasi-dictator #637728 on 16:49 - Aug 11 with 942 views | Linners | This one is particularly dark. He wants to normalise the sight of the military on the streets in big US cities. I don't know what will cause it, and when, but I suspect that chances of having US military opening fire on US citizens in the next few years is really high.

Labour are determined to cosy up to the Trump administration at all costs, and most of our media is to the right and while they probably find Trump a bit gauche, he's preferable to them than those darn libs. What Trump is doing is beyond the pale but you'll see very little criticism of it amongst our politicians and political commentators. The Beeb resorts to gently pointing out factual inaccuracies in what he's saying, that's still more than a lot of other news outlets are doing, but it'd be nice to see a bit more criticism of what is egregious authoritarianism.

Basically have to rely on Southpark and US chat show hosts to do the heavy lifting against authoritarianism and fascism | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Any "normal" politician would be trumpeting those stats as a presidential success, the fact he isn't is sinister.

The slip into authoritarianism has to be a concern. The biggest worry is how much further it goes. But there has been the same slide happening more slowly in this country and it is continuing under the current government too. Any suggestion that we are moving towards fascism tends to be met with a don't be silly response. My fear is that we will be too far down the road before anyone takes it seriously.

The general p*ssy-footing about with Trump that the BBC does is very frustrating. They don't call his b*llocks out nearly as much as they should.

He is a very dangerous idiot. I remember so many on here arguing that Harris and Biden were just as bad. How wrong they were and still are

The list of reasons the USA will f**k the World Cup next year seems to grow daily. I wonder what are the chances that Canada or Mexico could host more games?

The chances are zero that any host city would give up games.
