We do not currently have a squad that can dominate the division. All the tools are now there (if they weren't before) to make sure we've constructed one going into the international break. We will never have a competitive advantage like this year's and it is absolutely essential for the club's future that we make it count.

I think in losing Omari we’ve gone from no excuse to maybe some excuse territory if we don’t go up, but realistically we’ve probably got the best part of £50m to make it right in the next couple of weeks.

If we didn’t sign another player I don’t think we are far off tbh, but it’s the depth that will tell now over anything else.

We've certainly lost the cheat code that would have got us up – not much magic in this team now. I'm not catastrophising and think a lot of people have been way too overwrought over the past week but I do think we need two or three really excellent signings if we are going to look better than a clutch of very good competitors.

Sorry that's not true omari didn't make ipswich. We made him. We are still a parachute club with players that did extremely well at this level previously plus we've made a large amount of money to be able to add real quality to the squad

Promotion is minimum requirement.

Well I mean, it's been clear for the past couple of weeks that we weren't going to have Omari this season.

For me, the position we are only really short of top class for this division is in central midfield - but surely that's obvious to everyone? Which is why it was especially gutting to not secure Hackneys services.

So far the trend is not to spend big money and rely mainly on loans and I doubt that will change in the rest of the window.

Poll: Compared to the 23/24 squad how would you rate the current squad (without Omari)

I thinks we will make a big, permanent signing, as soon as Hutchinson has gone (especially after Broadhead leaving).

I still think we have every chance of challenging for top 2.

We’ve only got 1 more loan spot left, so I expect it will change

Not many loan spots left! So it's time for the serious stuff to start happening. It needs to.

There's no 'trend'. It's called keeping your powder dry for the bigger deals in the final week or so of the window.

Possibly.

I took it as saying as we are losing omari if we don't get promoted we have a reason why and that would almost be seen as acceptable.

Imo. Non promotion isn't acceptable and losing omari doesn't change that

There was a big money permanent signing though that eluded us in Hackney.

Not acceptable, just more likely. At current we’ve replaced an exceptional player with a pile of cash and so how we spend that likely determines our fate.

That non promotion statement is a bit entitled I think.

Our squad at the moment is not the strongest in the league, but let’s see what it’s like by the time the window closes

1000% its entitled. We are one of few parachute clubs in the league and we should just like league 1 finish in a promotion place.

If we don't its defo a failure. Entitled yeah but that is what football has become.

Next couple of weeks will go a long way to showing where the club is headed.

Bearing in mind Brett Johnson's "leak" about £100m of player sales, we're not far off that if OH goes. Now we need to see some serious investment again because as it stands if we don't go back up this season next summer will see the loss of Cajuste, Akpom and Kipre leaving another rebuild job.

I am sorry but if Hutchinson made that much difference we were one serious injury away from a disaster if we had kept him anyway.

We have the players to be one of the best 2 or 3 squads in the division. The challenge now is to play as the best team in the division. Birmingham were able to stop us doing so. With the additions, we need to quickly start playing how we were for much of pre-season.

Personally, I don't see it.

We punched above our weight to get out of the division, a team that was greater than the sum of its parts. We've recruited strong Championship players since, with a couple that were a cut above, who have now gone (or as good as gone).

Now we have a strong Championship squad, which should compete well, but are certainly not head and shoulders above the other strong sides in the division.

We should expect to do well, but we shouldn't be considered a shoe-in for promotion, in what will be a long, tough season.

If you spend over 200 million in 12 months you defo should have a squad that wins promotion despite losing a few players. And exactly why every pundit. Bookie etc has us down as favourites.

As a matter of interest where do you place O'Shea, Palmer, Greaves, Johnson, Jack Clarke, Philogene, Ogbene, Szmodics, Kipre, Akpom and Ashley Young in that assessment? Are they all simply strong Championship players or are they among the "as good as gone" ones?

The issue is more getting them to play as a team and perform how they did for their previous clubs when they were either solid Premier League players or top Championship ones. It is also about getting the best out of the new signings too.

It does feel like we have regressed this summer by quite a margin. There was always going to be some but the amount we’ve lost on top of Delap and Omari has surprised me slightly.

Feels like we have an above average championship squad, but I could sit here and say it’s a really good squad.

ATM Clarke doesn’t look like it’s going to work out. Philogene has been so so. The 2 boys on the right wing have had big injuries, who knows if they will come good.

The 10 position needs some reinforcement, left back, CM, RW, ST. Think there an argument for a RB and GK but probably not in this window,

Or possibly even January if we think we can get someone like a Hackney then, but not now. We do like a January refurb, don't we!

Obviously none of those players are as good as gone, we've just signed some of them.

Only one has proven themselves to be better than Championship level though, and he is now in his twilight years. I don't care about the price tags, we were paying premiums as a Premier League side for untapped potential. McKenna needs to tap it if we're going to see their worth.

This season is arguably the manager's biggest challenge as a manager since joining, to oversee the transition in the squad, keep the hunger in the dressing room that we're so used to reading about, and create another promotion winning side.

Personally, I think it's as big a challenge as getting us promoted from the division two years ago when we were riding the crest of a wave. I'm not saying he can't do it, but it's not a given this year.

I agree. Factoring in the upheaval this summer I think it'll almost be a bigger achievement to do it this season than it was in 23/24.

I'm not too concerned about left back, if Leif gets an injury Young, Humphries and Johnson can all do a job there. I still think Clarke will come good and if Philogene stays fit we have two top Championship wingers.

But CM does still look like we're very light and that needs addressing ASAP.
