Mine was Gaardsoe. I think it finally dawned on me that we were a million miles from the promised land. Dyer and Treacle helped us move forward and went to much larger clubs.

talbot for me . i could be wrong here , of all the players we sold over the years him and warky are the players to win major trophies with the club we sold them to.

when Chappers leaves

I was really sad when Greg Leigh left. I just loved how he gave everything, visibly loved playing and outjumped players six inches taller to win headers at the back post.

I was also gutted that Stephen Hunt didn't have his contract renewed and was reduced to begging for a club to sign him when working as a pundit on one of our games. He was my favourite player in a team which gave everything.

Especially for so low a fee.

Matt Holland to Charlton was the one that probably gut punched the hardest.

I remember holding up an A4 piece of paper saying “MATTY, DON’T GO!” in the Upper North Stand that someone called hardcore_ipswich on another forum had printed and handed out before a game.

Was my first foray into any kind of ITFC activism.

Letting Murph go with a few hours left in the window.

I know it was a dream for him, but it was basically a white flag waving off any ambition and to usher in the start of the very worst phase of the banter era.

Another vote for the late great Dalian Atkinson, the youthful me was convinced that he was going to lead our charge back to the top. The fact Sheff Wed pinched him for just £450,000 just rubbed salt in the wound, never liked them since.

His display against Middlesbrough, in an otherwise meaningless game, is one of the greatest individual performances I've seen in a Town shirt, possibly only surpassed by Super Jim against Bolton. Which was a slightly more important game.

Oh, come on. He was up against a pathetic pair of central defenders. Gary Pallister and Tony Mowbray. Earlier that week Pallister had received his first England call-up.

Terry Butcher was the first, as an almost 9 year old he was my favourite player at the time.

In (slightly) more recent years Keiron Dyer really hurt, especially after losing to bloody Bolton in the playoffs, although the money we got from the sale enabled us to buy the players that helped us get promoted the following year, so that helped to take the edge off a bit.

And then Holland, Bent et al following administration was another kick in the nuts.

Yeah likewise, I’ll take the record transfer fee over performative social media posts about how angry it’s made me.

Mine was Butcher. Felt like confirmation everything had fallen apart.

More recently, the fee we received for Holland was depressing.

I was also sad when both Petta and Reuser ended their time with us.

For me it was that collective loss of Davis, Miller, Kuqi and Bent. I had tried to convince myself we would replace them and kick on the following season, and it quickly became apparent that was not going to happen.

This was huge. Goinh from Kuqi and Bent to Forster and Parkin.

I remember being sat in Loftus Road, not being able to comprehend the drop in quality, though that had a lot to do with Mark Fish

Richard Wright won the PL and FA Cup with Arsenal,

Richard Wright played 10 league games for Arsenal, largely because David Seaman was injured & qualified for a medal & became 3rd choice behind Stuart Taylor & didn't play in the FA Cup final.

Does anyone believe BFJ's spin that the sale of Gaardsoe was for "footballing reasons"?
This one became even more galling when, the next season, he was ever present & POTY in WBA's promotion winning side.

He genuinely thought he was useless as a defender. I remember JR saying it to people I know back then and a player at the time confirmed to me more recently he didn't rate him at all. Had he not been sold, Gaardsøe would have been played in midfield.

I was a fan of BFJ but he got that one wrong. One of my best mates is a WBA fanatic, barely misses a game home or away, he loved Gaardsoe and thought he was fantastic.

Marcus Stewart by a mile.

May 2001 felt like we would be a bonafide Prem team for a minimum 10 years. With Marcus starting the rise.

To lose him only 1 year later ripped my heart out.

Wark to Liverpool

It's a little known fact amongst Liverpool fans that in his first season for Liverpool, in 1984-85, John Wark was their top scorer, with 27 goals from 62 appearances in all competitions.

He out-scored Ian Rush.

If you know a Liverpool fan, ask them who their top scorer was in 1984-85. Most won't have a clue. I know this because I have tried it!

Paul Mariner. Loved that man.

Mariccio Tarricco.

John Wark - first time to Liverpool.

Have to admit feeling a little bit sad waking up yesterday morning knowing Broadhead wouldn’t be donning the blue shirt anymore.

Ambrose for me. When Dyer, Bent, Wrighty etc left it felt like we had plenty of time to enjoy them. At the time it seemed like we had so much more to come from him. Was genuinely gutted when he went.

Joe was a good manager for Town at a difficult time for the club. He was somewhat old school in that he expected defenders primarily to defend, hence his reluctance to play the more sophisticated Gaardsoe in the back 4. Glad to hear his comments after the sale were honest, not spin as Joe always came over as a decent guy.
