Been unfortunate with the squad turnover .. 15:34 - Aug 15 with 1152 viewsBellevue_Blue

Don’t think any of us were expecting this much squad turnover, but honestly, it sounds like we’ve just been pretty unlucky.

Broady – Been pushing for a move to his boyhood club since pre-season kicked off

Morsy – Got a life-changing offer from the Middle East

Burgess – World Cup year, so of course he wanted guaranteed starts

Tuanzebe – Wanted to move home and play in the Prem

Delap & Hutch – Always likely they’d move on

Not sure there’s much we could’ve done to stop any of that without throwing out ridiculous contracts.

The only thing I think we might’ve handled better is getting into the market earlier and getting deals done faster. Even then, we tried for Hackney, Azon’s clearly been on the radar for ages, and Cajuste went off to explore other options.

Maybe I’m giving the club too much leeway, but it feels like the cards have just fallen awkwardly and left us in a tough spot.

Its not much of a turnover when getting relegated.

To be honest, I always felt we would do a lot of business this summer ... and going by McKenna's comments these past couple of weeks, we can still expect plenty of incomings/outgoings as well.

Can't say I am massively shocked by any of them really

Biggest surprise I suppose would've been Morsy but again not massively surprised . One year left 34 next and a big offer from Middle East . Main reason for keeping around was his temperament but not sure how that is seen now by the club anyway

You say not many would have expected this turnover and then give the reasons virtually everyone predicted these moves and Davis to go too. I don’t think it’s been anything other than expected.

I think as a fan base we're not overly used to seeing players leave, particularly good ones!

Other than the offer for McGoldrick that we turned down all those years ago, has there been much actual interest for any of our players during the Evans era? Maybe once a season like Cresswell, Mings, and errm??

Taylor, ali, possibly Walton, possibly woolf i could all see leaving and us being aggressive in finding replacements given incoming funds situation. Think we will be busy all the way up to the point when the window metaphorically slams shut

The club seemed to be waiting to cut ties with Broadhead I. January, and only didn't because they couldn't cover the position. So my sympathy with that one is limited to say the least. Similar with Burgess, who was dropped for Greaves.

Tuanzebe and Morsy, yes, I can see why they club hoped they would stay.

Not many left to leave is there? I can see some bits around the edges (Barbrook, Baggott, AAH) but I would hope Omari is the last big one out the door. £75m + add ons currently, Muric, Morsy, Tuanzebe, Burgess, Delap, Omari, Broadhead off the wage bill. I'd be really disappointed if anyone else notable heads through the exit door after Omari.

Kipre, Matusiwa, Young, Akpom, Azon added vs. last season. 3 on loan, 1 free, 1 perm.

Fun bit now surely, got to spend some dough an a few top players.

I was expecting more. I’m very surprised we’ve still got effectively our PL back four. I also thought we’d lose someone like Philogene or even Szmodics, maybe even Clarke (even though he had a poor season).

Morsy leaving was a surprise, Broady too. But then I didn’t think we’d get Cajuste back.

I think the nature of those big deals will determine who else goes really. I don't think anyone else of note will go now, but suspect you could argue that Taylor, Al-Hamadi, Johnson (if Fulham were to firm up their interest with a decent offer) and Baggott the ones likely to move on. I still have this nagging feeling that Bloomfield at Luton will want a permanent deal for Humphreys also.

It's not always bad luck there's a lot of excuses flying around for us since we got promoted, whether its overseas network, or this and that.

End of the day we are in position of huge financial clout and need to deliver. We spent all last year saying how it's unfair with PSR for promoted clubs. Most of the championship could say the same with parachute payments. The revenue in terms of gaps for parachute clubs is pretty stark and has accelerated a lot in the last decade. Average fielded teams are nearly 160M compared to 20M across the league.

AAH and Baggott almost certainly, but I'm not really counting them. I don't think they'll play even if they stay. Taylor maybe, if we bring in 2 in CM.

Need to go balls deep on a few incomings innit. I want something really spicy from left field.

Agreed. All those mentioned in the OP were very much on the 'at risk' list.

Its all very well KM saying he wanted to keep Broady, but his team selections havent suggested that to be the case.

I do truly wonder if we could have kept Morsy on for his final year as club captain with a financial incentive and maybe healthy promotion bonus. He may not have been team captain and not a starter, but I'd still like him here. He could still play a part on the field.

I can see Davis going which would be painful due to his ability and work rate. But also so late int he window to get a decent replacement.

I’m very surprised he’s still here. Agreed on both points - he’d be a huge loss and we’d struggle to replace. Townsend would be a good replacement so his injury could end up being more significant.

We could easily have held on to Morsy, but I reckon McKenna felt that at 35 next month we'd do well to get another good season out of him & he certainly wouldn't be much use if we got promoted again. I guess the aim is to build a new & better Town (very hard when in the Championship) & we need a younger player than Morsy as a big part of that. Not getting Hackney is a disappointment & we'll have to see if Matisuwa can adjust to the pace of English football.
