It’s very relevant if we want to get back there and have another go that we approach it very differently.

A mini meltdown because Sunderland won a game on 17:12 - Aug 16 with 1386 views | TractorWood | A thumping win at the start of last season would have really helped us. That spell where we kept doing good stuff but just couldn't get a result killed us. An odd (imo) January window made it very strange. Hopefully we are the low ebb for fan head scratching. A few wins and cement ourselves as contenders and we can try to look forwards as we have done for the last few years.

You don't need to hammer home the point, it's been acknowledged and justified at length by MA/ KM and most fans. It was a case of needs must with our evolution. We've made 6 signings this season, 4 from abroad. It's clear we are evolving that strategy. Stop boringly beating the same drum.
A mini meltdown because Sunderland won a game on 17:14 - Aug 16 with 1321 views | Churchman | Yep. The dismals cadre are revving up for an evening of enjoyable misery abusing McKenna, Ashton, players, departed players, the tea lady, Bluey and the idiot on the PA because Sunderland won their first game well. Apparently we never achieved a result anywhere near that. Well, we will see how many they smash Chelsea by. 3-0, 4-0? If the misery brigade want to compare our result v Wet Spam when our team had collapsed and had nothing to play for, I’ll compare how they do against Liverpool at home, Chelsea and Man City. It’s where may well be they have a much better season than we did. I hope they do but either way it has nothing whatsoever to do with the decisions we made, they made, what happened and what is to happen.

You do realise they don't get to stay up because they've won one game, right?

But you don't think reading too much into the first game of the season (albeit a good result) is maybe a bit premature?

Agree. Winning home games will be pivotal when a promoted club does eventually avoid the drop.

It’s a bit like reinventing the wheel innit. I think even last summer Ashton was saying they didn’t have overseas networks in place and it was something we were working towards.

Of course, that said, a couple of considerations. Every single point is crucial for a club trying to survive right? Like every win for a promoted club is absolutely huge, we are aligned on that, correct? I think when we’ve had an entire year seeing the gap it’s a bit depressing to see Sunderland equal our home win total with 8 debuts by smashing a team 3-0. Also, I didn’t start the thread about the game, I did one yesterday about their squad just because I’ve been impressed with what they done and wish we’d have done the same in terms of physicality and shopping abroad. I for one won’t be on a massive Sunderland watch this year week in week out don’t worry, of course it’s interesting as a newly relegated club when we are not playing today and see their first game. In other news, Norwich won, Hackney scored and Brum got two in injury time, can we just win tomorrow please, we need a good feeling Sunday after the last month. [Post edited 16 Aug 17:27]

It won’t make any difference how many points they get if they get relegated. They are not us. They are a Premier League club with a PL infrastructure for much of the last 26 years. They have a massive support and a bigger budget than we had. They may well do better, recruit better but who cares? Why is anyone interested, unless this is all about hounding players, calling for the managers head, enjoying chaos and failure? Let’s face it if you can build an unbeatable team on FM25 how hard can it be? I hope they do a lot better than us. It might just encourage the PL to keep the Promotion/Relegation process because if the last two seasons carries on, why would the PL not just pull up the relegation drawbridge? I would want that if I was say Everton or Fulham’s owner. Jealousy really doesn’t get anyone anywhere. It’s a corrosive vice,

It's quite something, isn't it? People need to get over last season fast. We went down, there's things we could have done better for sure, some more luck and fewer injuries might also have helped, but we basically had the same fate as the other five clubs who got to the Prem in the last 2 years. Sunderland have won a kind opening fixture and some are desperate to pour over last season again. We've got a big game tomorrow in the league we're actually in but some fans are still too busy wallowing to actually focus on supporting the team.

A mini meltdown because Sunderland won a game on 17:30 - Aug 16 with 1023 views | Bluedandy | Don't overstate the significance of Sunderland's opening win. We won our first three Premier League games in 1995 and were then pants for the rest of the season. Only survived on the last day because Mark Stein's injury time winner against Sheff United kept us up on goal difference instead of the Blades. Also the fixture list has been considerably kinder to the Mackems .. Potter's Wet Spam and then Burnley. If they lose at Turf Moor the feelgood factor will quickly fade. Very much doubt they would have bettered our aggregate scoreline of 1-6, had they played Liverpool and then Man City. We all know Sir Alf Hindsight is the best coach in the world, but it's time to look ahead. [Post edited 16 Aug 17:33]
