Ah, missed Begovic. It was the way I transferred the condensed data for that table succeeded in leaving Leicester out with their single transfer. Pulls the average down, if anything.

For those complaining of our slowness this transfer window on 22:11 - Aug 26 with 571 views | WicklowBlue | Great table thanks for sharing Guthers! It does give a lot of context, however like all stats secondary ones help. Such as associated fees (which in general are disclosed these days so not available) However, we can micro analyse these things to the nth degree. QPR's 5 signings on the face of it require a massive amount of gelling if they played at the weekend. Leiscester based on this are in a spot of bother. Also not sure why Sheff W haven't made moves in the market. Almost like you cannot determine the success of a transfer window until you get deeper into the season.

For those complaining of our slowness this transfer window on 21:40 - Aug 26 by MattinLondon | When was the last time we had a ‘wow’ player come in? Omari maybe to a certain extent, but as a club, we don’t tend to buy established players but rather turn them into better players. Thinking about it when we signed Kalvin Phillips I honestly thought ‘wow’ and that KM will be able to reignite his career. |
That's a very salient point. Phillips was a wow signing and Delap wasn't. It is how the players we get over the line actually do that really matters. I would say Philogene, Clarke, and Szmodics were all very good signings at the time. Right now they haven't provided value for money (although there is plenty of time for them to do so as yet).

You are not going to ever be happy then, as your expectations seem seem unrealistic. What player, in the real world, could be a very viable and realistic signing for us?

Quite, how many of those sides binned their entire midfield including their captain, and additionally sold their highest scorer and their most creative player? (before signing one of the midfield quartet back on loan after the season had started, granted). Signing 6 players is nothing to be wagging our tails about, when we've lost 9 players to other clubs and 3 to long term injuries. Here's an unpretty picture: Delap Hutch Broadhead Burns Phillips/Luongo Morsy Townsend Burgess Tuanzebe HClarke Muric

For those complaining of our slowness this transfer window on 21:48 - Aug 26 by Mark | Norwich signed 11, but not sure the quality is there. They just lost 3-0 to Southampton in the cup, and looked poor. 3/3 defeats at Carrow Road. |
They've signed 11 and have so far kept Sargent. Whilst they may well lose him in time, he is a better goalscorer than anything we have, and the main point is that you have to consider incomings and outgoings, and not just one half of the equation.

I'd have no problem if we bid for him. Occasional games missed but his stats are crazy despite the number of games he does miss. He'd be a dream with KM ball

This is where I am. A 'wow' player who 'is Premier League level' should be scoring more than one goal in a whole season, even in a struggling team. He'll be good but some have gone over the top with him.

norwich had sargent and their other good player (sainz) last year and finished 43 (forty-three) points off the top 2. last time we were in this league we finished 2nd, without the likes of o'shea, greaves, cajuste, philogene, akpom, szmodics et al. what the teams have already is probably the most important missing part of the equation to consider, along with incomings and outgoings... And how many of those nine were the primary option in their position? Four, maybe? Delap, Hutchinson, Morsy, Tuanzebe. Apart from Delap, their roles are now at least covered (we already had other 'keepers at the club). Burns is on his way back to fitness after an injury last season, so is not a loss who needs replacing with a new signing.

in any case it's totally unrealistic to expect a championship club to keep the same quality of squad after relegation, our income is much reduced and we're no longer as attractive a draw. i can't think of any side who've strengthened the summer after relegation from the prem [Post edited 26 Aug 23:36]

Yep, way over the top I feel. We’ll only know for sure in the coming months, of course, but I confidently predict we’ll still be waiting for those wows from Jens, come Xmas. A couple of decent cameos, the occasional sensational through ball and possibly a goal or two in the 10 or so games he actually manages to last a full 90 mins in by then.

More revisionism at play. We didn’t ‘bin our entire midfield’, Cajuste and Phillips weren’t ours, We had a 34 year old captain who still had one year of his contract remaining, but was clearly diminishing and would almost certainly have been back up to Matisiwa this season, until he was offered a life changing contract in Kuwait. What right do we have to have stopped him going? Cajuste was re-signed after Hackney turned us down - before the season started. Luongo was clearly diminishing too and was also destined for the occasional appearance and cup starts Our top goalscorer and most creative player were always going as was Broadhead, who had wanted out for two previous windows. Clarke would be getting moved on if he wasn’t injured and Burns is on his way back. [Post edited 26 Aug 23:45]

Here are players who have gone from Champ teams to other clubs (sold, free, loans) so far this window. We have the most, but not far ahead of Leicester and Southampton.

re 'wow' players. I guess I was kind of expecting us to land a couple of the high profile signings, such as Hackney or a CF that us oven ready to challenge Hirst. I get the 'buy young and grow them on' thing required for player trading, but unless we're going to be a very up and down club, going forward the players we being in do need to be pretty much as good as those we sell on! or at least have the potential to be that good fairly soon. Threre is still time and as lots of us say, the end of thr window, or even longer, will be the time to properly assess. But im still surprised we havent got a 'high profile' signing in so far.
